jorish
Gefeliciteerd! (Congratulations!).

I don't visit the photo.net forums as often as I used to (in fact, photography as a whole has been on the backburner for a while now), but when I do, I always visit the Nikon forums, and usually there is some helpful post by Wouter there. Thumbs up!

ShunCheung
I am glad that Wouter's new status is well received. The two main moderators for the Beginner Forum, James Dainis and Lex, strongly support his nomination. I have to admit that I don't visit the Beginner Forum often; it requires a lot of patience to answer some of those beginner questions, and sometimes it seems the same set of questions have been asked 100's of times.

Unfortunately, photo.net cannot afford to provide any prizes. As Matt finds out, after becoming a photo.net hero, it is more like additional work for him to start the Wednesday threads after mid-night week after week. :-)

Happy holidays.

marklcooper
Shun (and Matt for that matter<g>), why does Matt have to use midnight EST? Why can't he pick the time zone of his choice and use their midnight? After all, photo.net is known and viewed around the world. Let Matt post 8:00 am (or 5 pm if he likes) his time and someone, somewhere will be waiting for midnight to tick around so they can post their picture
Wouter Willemse
Ah, Mark, as the old English empire joke that it's 5 'o clock somewhere, so time for a drink... ;-) But I assume the whole idea is that wednesday means wednesday on the server?

Thanks all, your replies here are really appreciated and heart-warming (and I *do* blush!) - to all, very good x-mas days and enjoy your holidays!
marklcooper
Wouter- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. But, change the time zone on the server.

Merry Christmas to all.

marklcooper
Wouter - thanks for understanding. Before work got in the way several months ago I used to stay up 'til midnight EST so I could be one of the first to post my Wednesday pic. I've now gotten over that silliness.
ShunCheung

Shun (and Matt for that matter), why does Matt have to use midnight EST?

He doesn't. Apparently Matt is a "night owl" type (his day [and night] job is computer administration, I think) and he chooses to start those threads at that time, but that is completely his free choice.

Personally, I think photo.net should set up some timer feature and automatically initiate those per-forum weekly image threads as those threads have now spread into several forums. But we don't have that capability yet. However, that is another topic.
marklcooper
Shun - I'm a computer admin also. I know what you are saying about night owl job. It's really difficult to do server maintenance during 'normal' working hours. One of my major clients sometimes runs 3 work shifts for weeks at a time. I've finally decided my 'normal' working hours are Mon-Fri 8 to 5. I had a client call me at 4:30 am one day with a relatively trivial computer issue. I told him to call me back at 7 am, I didn't want to mess with his issue while half asleep....and possibly turn a trivial issue into a major issue.

As long as Matt is happy with starting the Wednesday thread at midnight...that's all that counts.

Merry Christmas,
Mark

Wouter Willemse
Thanks all :-)
Dan, my phonetic writing is no good at all, I guess the -ou-comes closest to the -ow- as in down. Usually for English speakers, I'll settle for the use of Walter, it's close and after one morning coffee, I even respond to it.
