phil_burt
Good Morning all, a wish to have a healthy and safe day for you,
About a month and a half ago I posted a question about getting a Nikon D400 (if they come out) or a Nikon D600.
First I want to Thank all that answered with their opinions for and against .... it is always good to hear opposing views.
Anyway, while in Philadelphia over the Thanksgiving Holiday and old Friend had just got his D600 and we went out for a shoot and I got to play around with it for a short time as well as get his opinions about it. Like me he had a D90 before so I really listened to all he was telling me.
Well, before I left for home back here in Benton, KY I visited a local camera shop, Allen's Camera in Bensalem,PA and purchased one. I do like supporting a local shop whenever I can and they made it real easy as they matched the price from the New York shops I sometimes buy from. They are extremely friendly there and I am looking forward to stopping in there when I return to Philly each year. They also told me should I have any question not to hesitate to give them a call. Really nice people!
My shipment is coming today via the UPS truck and I am really excited. Only bad part I won't even have time to hardly unpack it as I have several things to do tonight. But I sure will tomorrow.
I will come back with my amateur thoughts on this in a week or so after I have shoot about a thousand clicks.
Thanks again for your opinions and thoughts on this subject.
Almost forgot ..... we do not have any local shop that sells Nikon within 100 miles from where I live or I would have attempted to use them.
philb
benton, ky
ShunCheung
Congratulations on your new D600.

Nikon USA lent photo.net and me a D600 for about a month and half. I used it extensively before returning it to them earlier this month. Generally speaking, I am extremely happy with the D600. It has the same AF system as the D7000, which I have owned for over 2 years. I find the AF on the D600 and D7000 fast and accurate. I also like the smaller size of the D600, compared to the D3/D4, but it is not too small like the D7000.

My main reservations on the D600 are:

AF points too concentrated in the center of the frame

Consumer-style controls similar to those on the D90 and D7000. I prefer the D300, D700, D800 style controls.

You can find photo.net's D600 early review here: http://www.photo.net/reviews/nikon/d600-first-impressions-review

BTW, there is a lot of discussion on the D600 dust issue. Personally, I never found that to be a problem.

Since I have a D700 and a D800E, I have 12MP and 36MP already covered and don't need a D600 at this point. Otherwise, I would have bought one without reservations.
chris_letts
Since I bought my D600 a few weeks back it's been non-stop rain, wind, storms etc so I haven't got out to do a real tryout - Hope you have better luck !
On what I have so far I'm well happy.
chris_brandt1
Congratulations on your new D600. I bought mine to expand the abilities I had with the D7000. I found the transition to be almost seamless. I carry both bodies with different lenses and can switch back and forth with no effort. You'll love it.
