colwyn_griffith
Hello,
I recently bought the Nikon D800 and would like to find a way to attach it to my Sinar F1 field camera, so I can get the 4x5 movements and stitch massive files. I'm wondering if anyone out there has direct experience with trying to do this? If so what types of adapters are the best and what are some of the pitfalls to avoid when setting up such a system.
I see that there are a few companies who design adapters. I know Fotodiox http://fotodioxpro.com/ sells an adapter for grafloc backs for $300. Are there better set ups or is this as good as it gets?
I assume I'll have to get recessed lens boards and pick up used digital lenses for a rig like this.....the Rodenstock Apo Sironar Digital lenses come to mind.

Thoughts?

Colwyn
western_isles
One of the problems that you might find is the lack of covering power of the lens that you intend to use. Shifts and tilts need a lens that covers the full area of film/sensor. Not all digital lens' will do this. You might be better to stick to a large format or medium format lens.
I use the Nikon 85 and 24 mm shift lens' and they perform superbly on a D700 and I imagine would be even better on the D800 you have. Have you thought of trying a Nikon TS?
q.g._de_bakker
I don't do this myself, but know someone who puts a Canon 1Ds Mark-something-or-other behind a Sinar.
Using LF lenses, you still run into problems. Not with coverage. The DSLR-body forms a tunnel that vignets quite seriously when you move from the centre out towards the edge of the image circle.
Still doable. But with limitations. gregory_king1
I suppose large format lenses on a small format body averages out to medium format? ;-)
