joannasfoto
I have searched for posts that would refer to issue like what I am having with my D300, but could not find any. So I decided to ask.
I have been using my D300 for about four years with no problems.
And recently while previewing photos on the back screen I am having this strange issue, where files are showing grayed out and showing just outlines of subjects from the photo viewed.
Below is picture showing view of 3 thumbnails, but it happens to show me files this way while on 1 thumbnail preview or histogram preview. And just to be more clear- the same file will show fine on full screen preview and than change to this grayish view while on instagram or multi-thumbnail view.
Link to photo: https://twitter.com/JoannasFoto/status/280759259011092480/photo/1

Here is link to a video showing how it looks like while scrolling through images: http://youtu.be/5PPyKr79gsI
At first I thought it was card issue, so I have formatted my card, than used different one. I've changed batteries. Used various lenses. My firmware is up to date wccording to what's posted on Nikon's site.
Not sure what else could be done on my end?
I will truly appreciate if anyone had seen something like this and knows maybe what this problem may mean? I can always try to have it looked at by Nikon's service, but was hoping to get opinion from someone who dealt with something like that.
charles_wrenn
I've never seen this. Have you tried a reset (green buttons) of the camera?
Matt Laur
I do notice that you have the highlight display turned on. What happens when you turn it off?
joannasfoto
Thank you Charles and Matt. Unfortunately none of your suggestions worked :(
mike_halliwell
The actual images, once downloaded, are perfectly normal? It's only the back-screen preview function that's messed up? Does LV work OK?

If a hard-reset doesn't fix this, it's off to Nikon I fear, as something is definitely 'messed-up' inside...:-(

The only time I've seen pictures look that way is when I'm doing some manipulation in PS and have converted it to Lab color and am looking at a single channel. Very weird!
joannasfoto
Mike, images are fine when downloaded. LV works fine as well.
The more I am thinking about it, the more I feel that it might be a firmware issue- in creating thumbnail previews.
And cannot stop wondering whether going back to older version of firmware may be help...?

ShunCheung

And cannot stop wondering whether going back to older version of firmware may be help...?

Of course it won't. If this were a firmware issue, lots of people would have complained about that version of the firmware.
joannasfoto
Thank you all for your responses. Yes, I guess my thoughts about firmware might not be the correct direction. I am getting the camera ready to ship to Nikon's repair service, since none of my actions (resets etc.) works.
