Is there a limit to number of ratings per day/hour?

Thanks guys for your answers - although I guess I was approaching the question for the other side.
My work keeps me very busy during the year and I really only get to play with my photos and with Photo.net during my extended holidays. Over the last week or so I have rated quite a few images and I was wondering if I had hit a limit because the system seemed to be ignoring my ratings on some images. I still haven’t figured out the problem. If it keeps happening I’ll refer the particular images to admin and ask them if they know what the issue is.

Cheers,

Mike, it's possible the photos you'd rated didn't register any tally because photos must receive (if I'm recalling correctly) five ratings before the average is shown. If you're rating newly uploaded photos it's likely there will be some delay before you'll see your name attached as one of the members who'd offered a rating.

Thanks Lex - yes I thought that might be the case but then I checked a few other images and some that I rated when they first appeared on the list still did not register my rating when they had received over 6 or 7 ratings.

I've noticed two things: firstly, when you go back and try to rate an image that you rated a while ago the rating option is not visible - I assume because the system knows you have already rated the image. The second is that if you try to rate an image immediately after you have already rated it then the system says you have already rated the image with a 5 or whatever and won't allow you to re-rate the image.

However, for the images that the system is not registering a rating I can try to assign a rating as many times as I like and the interface continues to allow me to do it. This seems to indicate that the system is failing to register the rating immediately it is given and so continues to allow me to keep trying. There is no error message though so I am confused.

I'll try to find one of the images I can't rate and post a link here.

That's rather odd.

I assume you are rating directly from the gallery page for each photo, and not from the "Rate Photos" queue. When you rate from the queue you will see a "confirmation" of your rating in the upper left corner of the page (along with an average rating score by others) when you advance to the next photo in the queue.

No such confirmation when rating directly from the photo page, and your name won't appear in the summary list immediately unless your timing is just right (names are posted in groups, not individually). Still, once you do submit a rating, the "Rate Image" tab should disappear unless you are looking at a cached version of the page.

Curious.

Okay, the "RATE IMAGE" tab doesn't disappear when rating from the gallery page (just tried on one of your photos), because presumably it is cached and takes a while to refesh, but if I try to rate the same photo a second time I get a "You have already given this photo a rating of _" message after submitting the second rating.

Curious indeed. :-)

I've had the same problem as Mike describes for some time.
I prefer to rate directly from the gallery page for each photo to see the previous comments/critiques. However I'm forced to go to the "Rate Photos" queue when I run upon the problem that Mike describes.
I don't seem to have any "rating failures" there, and I am able to leave a comment, although I am unaware of previous comments.
