dcstep
Add the EF 1.4x TC for more magnification with that combination. I love my EF 70-200mm f/4L IS, EF 25ET and EF 1.4x TC for macro work.
ed_avis2
The Sigma 50/2.8 macro lens gives great results and is also a superb 50mm lens for general purpose photography. You may be able to pick up a used one for not much more than a set of extension tubes. The same applies to Canon's 50/2.5 compact macro, perhaps costing a little more.

IMHO, if you don't have a macro lens, the cheap 50mm macro is the one to get first. Especially if you don't have a 50mm lens already.
