pje
Does anyone know if Sherry Krauter is still in the Leica repair business? She did some work for me about 4 years ago, but I've been unable to get a response from her since May this year.
Thanks.
steve_bellayr
Yes. She just repaired my M6ttl in August 2012.
pje
Did you contact her via email or phone her? I've emailed her multiple times about doing some work for me.
john_shriver
Phone is Sherry's preferred means of contact.
steve_mareno1
I think John has the answer. I've never sent anything to her due to this, shall we say, eccentricity. After numerous attempts to get an answer to my emails I finally gave up and had my gear repaired elsewhere. I don't care how good she is or any of that, if someone ignores my communication, I don't give them my business. Seems fair to me.
jimsimmons
All camera repair people are eccentric. Get over it. If they were normal, they'd be doing something else. If you've ever had the good fortune to speak with Sherry on the phone, as I have, you'd cherish the experience.
wgpinc
I have had Leica repair work done by Sherry Krauter. She is very good at what she does. I tend to go more to Don Goldberg at DAG. http://www.dagcamera.com There are several others that come highly recommended but I tend to go to these two. Good luck!
pje
Thanks everyone. I've used both Don and Sherry in the past. It was just a long time ago and trying to get current information seemed difficult. At least I know both are still in the repair business.
john_robison3
"All camera repair people are eccentric"
Bingo!
I don't have a business but I hate e-mail also. I can't type, can't spell, my brain is slow, and I have a hard time composing my thoughts.

Yet, when I called up Sherry Krauter she answered right away, gave me valuable information, and was completely pleasant.
baisao
"If you've ever had the good fortune to speak with Sherry on the phone, as I have, you'd cherish the experience."

I second this. Absent the Leica business, she is still an incredible person that has had an incredible life. She reminds me of my wife's great aunt in Poughkeepsie: tough, opinionated, and keeping alive a beautiful heart.
ray .
If she wasn't answering emails it may have been that she was just busy at the time. I seem to remember that her invoice for a Summaron lens she CLA'd for me was hand written. She's old school. I also had a very nice long conversation with her on the phone a few years ago when I was thinking of buying a Minolta CL she had. Very nice lady, knows her stuff and has a real passion for her work. pje
Sherry sent me an email response last night! (Thanks Sherry).
Once again, thanks to everyone for providing information about contacting Sherry and your comments on her service. As I mentioned I used her previously but was unsure if she was still in business as there has been so much change in film photography in recent years.
I have no problem with old school, (in fact I like old school). I just needed to know the contact method. My 90mm Summicron F/2 is going off to her today.
christopher_a._junker1
Sherry is the "go to" person for the Leica CL's. Her experience and knowledge with the type resulted in a phone call to me where she explained my CL problems. As she explained, the CL went though several internal upgrades over time and that mine was an early example that had component failures. Her CLA included all the upgrades and component repairs and I now have a nice CL as a backup to my M3 and M4-2, both of which she CLA'd.
I also bought a used 35 Elmarit R at what I thought was a high price, but upon receipt found it was perfect and looked like a new lens.
The other "eccentricity" is that Sherry used to do a lot of night work so she wouldn't get disturbed, don't know if that changed, but evenings were sometimes a good time to call her.
Great lady, really makes an effort to do it right.
ramosa_rammea
I spoke to Sherry twice on the telephone to get advice about film Ms. She was incredibly informative and helpful. Unbelievable, in fact.
paul_neuthaler
She is a brilliant Leica technician and a warm, funny, caring person. I love her & her cats & visited her twice app. three years ago. I owe her a good lunch.
jeffrypittman
She CLA'd two M2s and an M3 for me recently and her work is perfection. In my opinion, worth the wait and every penny.
tom_oldfield1
I just got my M6 ttl back from Sherry after some repairs and the MP upgrade. What a great lady. She is fun to talk with and does great work in a timely manner. What more could you ask for?

The viewfinder upgrade is well worth the expense.

Tom
