Can't find actions files for CS3

Recommended Posts

Wanting to back up my many actions files (.act files) and lo and behold they appear to be hiding from me. Having looked where they are supposed to be, I don't see them, only a recent one I created a few days ago. So i did a spotlight search - nothing. So I made another Smart folder (specifying action files of course) and tried to trick them (like MW3 entrapment), nothing except the regular installed ones that came with CS3. So did a physical hard sweep of all presets, and folders within all three libraries and within of course Photoshop application support, in fact everywhere I could think of. Now they are in Photoshop - yes, I just used a couple yes, but they seem to have a Harry Potter invisible cloak on them. Anyone got any brain waves to spare?

Not sure about CS3, but if it works like CS5, left click on the right side of the Actions panel toolbar, then on Load Actions, and that should take you to the actions file(s).

Alternate method (assuming Windows): Go to Computer>Program Files, then do a search on ".ant" (no quotes). Thats the file extension for the action files. You should be able to find it from there...

Type " *.act " into the search box on your computer. Make sure that the search includes hidden and system files.

BTW, have you created brand new actions? Or simply added them into the default actions that come with CS3. If the latter you probably won't see them as separate files, but the inbuilt action files should include your added recordings.

Hi William, it does, and this is the same folder I originally accessed manually. Unfortunately there is only one action listed, and I have about 12 that I use and are shown in photoshop, but they do not appear in any folders. I'm stumped.

Hi Rodeo, I typed it with the asterix, does not accept this nomenclature. Typed it without, but I already did this, anyway, still nothing. The actions I am referring to I created myself many months ago. The most recent action was an imported one, that shows. But the ones I created I think now I read a long time ago will not show up. they are integrated into some inaccessible file I can not look into, rather irritating I suppose. So yes, they are brand new actions I created in Photoshop.
