steve_wagner1
I got the 00 aperture and lens communication error with 5d2 and 24-105, thought it was the lens, but then my 70-300L did the same, so I assume it's the camera. If I give the mounted lenses a little extra twist to the right it goes away and they work, including the AF. If I then relax it it will sometimes stay ok but often revert back to the error.

The contact pins are clean, or at least they look clean, and none of them are loose or pushed up/pressed down more than the others. Any thoughts are appreciated. I'm in Mumbai doing field work. Thanks.
PuppyDigs
I'd clean them anyway. I've had contacts with intermittent conductivity become reliable after a cleaning even tho' they looked fine. I figured a thin layer of oil or chemical residue was to blame. Anywho, a q-tip and RatShack contact cleaner healed it.
Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. jamie_robertson2
I'd still have my suspicions about it being a lens problem. I just got my 24-105 back from the repair shop due to the exact same problem.
steve_wagner1
It does it with all five of my lenses now so it has to be the camera. I will have to see what kind of cleaner I can find in Mumbai. Are there any commonly available cleaners that can be used?
PuppyDigs
Alcohol on a q-tip or micro fiber cloth or even a few strokes with a magic rub eraser could help. The problem with erasers is the resulting crumbs can easily fall inside the mirror box and cause other problems.
Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. jamie_robertson2
A drop of Vodka or Gin would do the job if you're stuck. Most lens cleaning fluids are predominantly iso-propyl alcohol which would be perfect.
Marcus Ian
Obviously it's the camera, but unless significantly dirty, 'dirty' contacts are unlikely the cause. You may try to remove the contact plate (two screws at the sides) and see if there is an obvious flaw underneath (like a bit of dirt, broken wire, loose contact, jammed spring, etc.) Aside from that though, 'field service' is pretty out, though, since 'wiggling' the lens on makes it work for awhile, that'd be my first try.
steve_wagner1
Ok, thanks all, since I have 4.5 more months of field work I need to resolve it. It's starting to result in missed shots now. I will do the cleaning and if no luck I'll trek down to the biggest Canon store here in Mumbai and see what they say.

Thanks
