What is your essential Nikon lens?

<p>I am a DX shooter for the time being. My favorite prime is the 35mm f/1.8. I f I had the opportunity to choose a zoom as well, I guess it would be the new 18-300 VR.</p>

<p>My 18-70 is on the camera (D90) the most, but my favorite (most fun) to SHOOT with are my 55 micro, 11 - 16 ultra-wide, and 105mm (MF).</p>

<p>One prime : 35 f/1.8<br>

One zoom : 16-85 </p>

<p>Don't laugh but (FX) - would be the 28-105 zoom. Not the sharpest (but not bad) and so versatile - acceptable close ups, wideish to short tele, and great for 'play' with soft focus, blur etc.<br>

One prime? Maybe the 55/3.5 micro.</p>

<p>My 17-55 lives on my D300 most of the time; if it had to be a prime, probably the 35.</p>

<p>Wow that's tough. If I had to choose a prime it would be my Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 Ais manual focus lens. In the zoom category, I think my most often used is the old AF Nikkor 28-85 f/3.5-4.5. These aren't necessarily the most often lenses used on my Nikon bodies, but the most often used Nikon lenses.</p>

<p>Since my use is "general photography," I don't have the more specialized use of the wide or teles. When I shot film the 24 and the 80-200 came out maybe 10% of the time. So...<br>

for film = 35-105<br>

for crop sensor DSLR = 18-70, maybe the newer 18-105 VR</p>

<p>I would seriously consider the Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 AF-D lens., and the Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/1.2 Ai lens, but if I had to choose only one lens to glue on my camera, it would be the lens that stays on my D700 90% of the time anyway, the <strong>Nikkor 28mm f/1.4 AF-D</strong> lens. </p>

<p>17-35 2.8 , followed by 80-200 2.8 on a FF camera. </p>

<p>The Nikon 10-24 is my essential Nikon lens since I use a DX camera.<br>

If I would have used an FX camera I would probably choose the Nikon 24/1.4, or perhaps the 24/3.5 PC-E.</p>

<p>That's easy; the lens living on my D3 90% of the time anyway - the PC-E Micro Nikkor f:2.8/85 mm.</p>

<p>Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f2. Just one sweet lens.</p>

<p>the sigma 50/1.4 is pretty nice on FX. so is the 70-200 VRII.</p>

<p>55mm Micro. My first Nikon lens and still love it. Very sharp, and it serves well as a "normal" lens in addition to macro work (I shoot flowers often).</p>

<p>my 70-200mm f/2.8 is the workhorse of my work. Hard to give up and so I'll stick to that</p>

<p>I guess the 28-300mm F/3.5-5.6 AF-S VR ED. Nice and light all-round lens. But my 80-200 f2.8 is a close second it is probably the better lens for portrait but heavier to lug around</p>

<p>Been there, done it, and with a 70-200mm 2.8. And will continue to do so! Forever!</p>
