Which would you buy?

For sports 100-400L, 7D or 1D MK II? If you own 5D

<p>What sports are you shooting? What are you doing with the photos?</p>

Baseball, soccer, flag football and maybe lacrosse. I know after dark forget 1D 2 100-400

do you have already a 5D and a 200/2.8? <br>

If so - take a look at the 7D for a bit more „outreach” and a faster frame-rate.<br>

A friend is using a 7D with a 70-200/2.8 and 300/4 professionally for soccer.<br>

I for my part don't like 100-400 or 50-500 zooms for sports.<br>

I'm not a Canon-guy, so take this with a grain of salt.<br>

<p>Canon 70-200 2.8 is THE go to sports lens, move up to a 300mm F/4 if you are doing mostly outdoor stuff and have good light and need to get closer. You can add a 1.4x teleconverter to either for more reach.</p>

 

<p>The 7D. Vastly superior resolution, fps is same or better, and autofocus is likely similar or better as well.</p>

<p>Yea, you need something other than the 5D to shoot sports. The original 5D and even the 5D-II simply doesn't have the autofocus sophistication and frame rate that you need. Adding better glass to the 5D simply isn't worth it for sports. The 7D's autofocus is surpassed only by the 1D-IV and 1D-X. The jury's still out on the 5D-III autofocus but the frame rate is still not there.<br>
