Canon AE-1 Program

Who is the "go to" repair expert for the Canon 35mm film cameras? A lot of the recommendations on this site are outdated. My Canon AE-1 Program film camera has advance lever and film slippage problems that didn't occur until after a CLA. I sent it back to the guy who did it and he can't find anything wrong with it.

John Titterington in Kansas did the overhaul and when I sent it back to him he could find nothing wrong with it.
It doesn't matter now because I sold the complete camera outfit on Craig's list yesterday.

Sorry to hear about the issues with this CLA, that sounds very frustrating. I think I might have given John another chance though. He has an excellent reputation and that's the first negative comment I've read about him. I recently bought a refurbished Minolta X-700 from him at a very reasonable price, and it is flawless. I will probably send him a Nikon FM for CLA soon.

It is not my intent to disrespect John Titterington or slander his name. I was just looking for a recommendation to get another opinion. John put both of my film cameras (Pentax & Canon) through 2 rolls of film and found nothing wrong and this was long after his CLA warranty had expired. He only charged me for return shipping. I ended up selling the Canon but sent the Pentax to another repair person.

There is something called the "Canon Squeek" or some such. I had it on my AE-1P, worried about it, but it went away with use. There are internet threads on how to lubricate the proper part, if it does worry you, but all the talk about imminent* death of a camera with the 'feature' seems to be mostly just viral. You should enjoy the camera. For a classic form (pre-jello mold, pre T-90) camera, it is one of the best, and certainly the most affordable.
*It seems to be neither imminent nor immanent. :)
