POTW 6-10-12

<p>Looks like it falls to me to kick this week off with some wildlife shots taken on the Yellowstone trip. Both were shot with the K-5/18-135 combo.</p><div></div>

<p>Second one. A ranger told me that the thing on his bill is part of his display for mating.</p><div></div>

<p>Lucky snake, almost ran over him/her with mountian bike, notice the tire track he's laying in, he was quite cooperative or still traumitized from his near death expierence</p><div></div>

<p>The large purple fringed orchids are begining to bloom, found these in a marshy spot off a trail where I've never found them before, glad to see that, most around here are along roads where they are vulnerable to pickers, road work, and the forest services brush removal, most orchid destruction I've witnessed has been done by the forest service's trail maintenance, grass cutting, and brush removal, isn't that ironic.</p><div></div>

<p>My wife is an amateur/hobby actor. She is currently in a Shakespeare In The Park show in town. She knows I'm not a Shakespeare fan at all, but I'm obligated to attend a show... Since it was outside in an urban park I brought my gear and made the best of it. I caught 500 snapshots through the play and burned 120+ to a DVD for the folks that put on the show. They were very happy. But sitting near me was a young black lab and her humans and throughout the show the dog was my subject. At the end I gave these folks my card and said if they'd like a few free images (as a thank you) to drop me an email. They did, and I did, and here are the three best of the lil' poochy. K-5, DA 55-300, 1600 ISO, jpeg capture, various shutter and aperture. I haven't taken too many pet photos, but I've learned that dark colored animals really show off the stuff their fur has collected- dirt, dandruff, etc. This first shot had a lot of spot removal on the dog's left cheek (eye to ear to lower jaw), but it cleaned up nicely.</p>

<p>I filmed at the climate camp in Zurich last week and took lots of photos of my own vegan food dishes and today of the children vegan cooking class there :-)</p>

<p>I shot mostly film this week. After a morning out shooting a couple of us decided to check out an old mill nearby that has been resurrected, and now open to the public. I took my DL with the kit lens. not expecting much.OOPS. We are going back in a couple of weeks with other gear.</p><div></div>

<p>For those of you who recall my recent thread, I went ahead and purchased a used Pentax 18-55mm WR lens from KEH (EX+, not sure exactly how it differs from brand new). Took it along on a hike and got these shots, all with my K-7 and converted to B&W and tweaked in LR. Also did some "brick wall" type testing -- I use the front of a high school -- and the lens is a keeper, despite being clearly less capable than the DA 21mm and FA 35mm lenses that I had along for comparison. I can't tell you why, but despite it being the "worst" lens in my arsenal I think I'm going to like it. It is the first zoom lens that I have ever owned, which might have something to do with it.</p><div></div>

<p>Here's a shot of Venus in front of the sun. I used a home made Baader AstroSolar filter, my A* 300, and Vivitar 2x TC.
