vintage WW-II era color images

Recommended Posts

Hello folks...
My wife fwd'd this link to a page showing many fine color
images from late 42 and spring 43. These are high quality
digital images made from original color film transparencies.
Thought some folks out there might be interested in taking
a trip back in time to various sites engaged in the war effort.

Enjoy!

Alan,
Thank you for your post. I was a little over four years old when WWII broke out, and remember some of the hardships my mom and my two brothers went through.
I, and every American owe a BIG debt of gratitude to "THE GREATEST GENERATION" as well as what our brave men and women of the armed forces of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are doing for us today.

Wonderful photos, and in this case they do count as more than 1000 words. My parents spent that war in the Canadian airforce, moving from base to base in Canada. They had never been more than a few miles from home when the war broke out, and for them this was how the world was opened up. Thank you, Alan.

Michael . . . "darn you!"
I've been on shorpy.com now for over an hour . . . just looking!
But thats o.k.! Bad TV night, no Antiques Roadshow on PBS, but thanks to you both, . . . you filled the void!

Alan,
Thanks for sharing these...simply outstanding! A frozen moment in time. They are almost 3 dimensional. Obviously most WW2 era photographs were BW. By these being in color and SO sharp they look like they could have been taken yesterday....
Thanks again!

So much of our understanding of world war II for those of us too young to have lived through it is through newsreels. it's almost as though the world was in black and white. The color you do see is often faded and unreal somehow. It's great to see what the world looked like in living color! Great shots too.

I'm lucky to have about 10,000 Kodachromes that my late Father shot from the forties, though the eighties. Documenting his time in the Army Air corp, and our family (including my Daughter) growing up. Still have the TDC projector, and the Kodak 35 that shot all of them. Instagram my ass!
