relocated estate with nikon f and f3hp

<p>just got my nikon f not long ago and brought it out for a shoot. decided to shoot an old estate that is making way for redevelopment.<br>

<p>over 70% of singaporeans live in public housing and this estate is typical type of such housing. the estate is probably around 30 years old and is relatively old by singapore standards. chances are the flats will be torn down and rebuilt. when the government acquires these flats, they will offer brand new flats to the residents. most residents in this estate have probably moved into those newer flats.</p>

<p><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7220/7273006850_17cbc48283.jpg" alt="" /><br />an old playground. the structure on the left is a penguin. this is part of a the animal series playground that can be found around singapore. animal themed playgrounds were popular in the 70s and 80s. there are also dragon and dog themed playgrounds.</p>

<p>That's a lovely old F -- in the day, of course, brassing of the camera was a badge that you were a 'real' photographer, not an MD on a rare vacation. ;)</p>

<p>Obviously it's still capable. Nice, even poignant series, but since I am (for a time) petless, I too was especially drawn to the "catnap". :)</p>

<p>Fine old workhouse of a Nikon, <strong>Alvin</strong>, and great documentation of a lifestyle a little unfamiliar in my country, though our local City Corporation is in the throes of relocating the residents from a similar structure after bits and pieces such as balconies began dropping of...The cat's cute, and I really like the newspaper shot, but I reckon it's a pelican in the playground, not a penguin...Thanks for posting.</p>

<p>jdm: it is a real workhorse! really love the feel of the f, f2 and f3. they're just as capable today as they were when they first came out</p>

<p>ric: omg, you are right! must have been the wine recognising the animals when i was typing this out. lol. yup, it is a pelican not a penguin.</p>

<p>guess we are pretty fortunate in the sense that our buildings here, thus far, do not have the chance to have parts of it falling off. they're still very much structurally sound. the nice thing about older estates in singapore is that they tend to be more spacious with the blocks well spaced apart. this is a luxury in a land scarce country.</p>

<p>Alvin this is an interesting series. I like the building shots better than the cat. There is always something eerie about homes that are now devoid of people. Singapore is an interesting country. Just for reference "Estate"in most English speaking countries generally means a Large, privately owned home by wealthy people. Such as Biltmore, the Vanderbilt estate. The structure you photographed would be referred to as a "High Rise" or "Housing Complex".<br>

Whatever you call it Black & white is fascinating and the Nikon F is an historic camera.</p>

<p>thanks russ. i do agree that the emptied buildings do feel a little eerie. which is probably why i chose to shoot in the day. lol. but there is something that attracts me to these abandoned places. i just feel that they have this sort of charm</p>
