Hello Nikonistas, and a fine summer Wednesday to you. This week, just a bit of evening light made interesting by an incoming storm front. I had just had a nice dinner and a sip or two, so it's possible it was more ... compelling ... then than it is now. Used your Nikon gear for one of those it-seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time shots? Share!

00aY6C-477401584.jpg.d2cbafa0c240fe9db7ecc1ed0543b38b.jpg

Happy Wednesday Nikonians!

Although we were only in Las Vegas for an evening, we made the most of our time there. We visited the Bellagio Casino, not to gamble but instead to view their fountain and stroll through their botanical garden. Both have been portrayed in numerous movies.
As you enter the Bellagio Casino from the Strip, there above your head are numerous miniature hot air balloons.
I hope you enjoy the photo.

00aY6I-477403584.jpg.c8d69fd97425b2d9d3447c3b27e9b138.jpg

Had a great camping weeked for the summer solstice. Some friends and I (about 100) had a little camp out/music festival out in the middle of nowhere. It was full of visual treats and I snapped more than 750 photos over 4 days. The trip was finished with a trip to White River Falls here in Oregon. There is an old power plant there from around the turn of the century. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but the fine volcanic sediment in the water ruined the turbines, so hydro power wasn't such a good idea long term.

00aY6O-477407684.jpg.4b1c17796e4074927be7560badb2d3b0.jpg

The theme of this year's Solstice parade in Santa Barbara was "Fantasia". Knowing that light situations at the evening performance at Alameda Park would be horrible, I decided to try some fill flash. In order to capture the motion of this Maculelê dancer I selected rear-curtain sync on the D300, set the SB-800 to TTL-BL mode and exposed at f/8, 1/40s, +1/3EV exposure correction using the 17-55/2.8 at 17mm. A flash exposure correction of 1 2/3 stops was very likely dialed in as well. It did seem like a good idea at the time...

00aY6U-477409584.jpg.ad88c6498c40f07afcbbeb5708c84855.jpg

Been awhile since I checked in. Stunning shots right out of the gate as usual ! Had the opportunity to catch a little boat racing in Bay City, Michigan over the weekend and I happened to have my F4 with a 75-300 loaded with Kodak 200 in the truck. Wasn't planned but it came together anyway. Dow sponsored boat racing by at over a hundred miles an hour.

00aY6b-477413584.jpg.90d4976816d7731b2cd36cba48402c56.jpg

Morning! Been busy in Sheffield the last few days as we hosted the Olympic Flame on it's journey round the UK. This picture was taken at a torch-bearer briefing before the main event (hence not lit) and included the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg (MP for Sheffield Hallam). D700, 24-70, SB-900

00aY7D-477425584.JPG.db09104444ba4a0792e3370948207858.JPG

Ragged robin - which seemed like a good idea to use a wet day in Wales. The rig described in the caption is a revelation when used to photograph newsprint - soft in the centre, massive field curvature and coma at the edges, just silly. Optically much better at f5.6 but so much less fun...

00aY7V-477433584.jpg.ae57a1d3c736b8a359b17e5317ee3f4b.jpg
