Elliot Erwitt Personal Best or Snaps??

<p>I want to buy a Elliot Erwitt's photo book.</p>

<p>Would you recommend Personal Best by teNeus or Snaps by Phaidon?</p>

<p>Both have their strengths and shortcomings.</p>

<p>Or other publications you recommend?</p>

<p>'Snaps' is an excellent look at the entirety of his career to date. I'm not so fond of the white text reversed onto a green background but the commentaries are worth reading. There's a bit of overlap between photos in the two books, so one or the other would be plenty.</p>

<p>I couldn't find it at their web site, but if you have access to the March 2012 edition of Rangefinder magazine, check out the portrait of Elliot Erwitt on page 99. It won third place in Rangefinder's first annual B&W contest. Photo was taken by Brian Smith.</p>

<p>I spoke to a friend of Elliott Erwitt a few weeks ago who told me that Erwitt has been having some fun shooting color under an assumed name...unfortunately I cannot recall the name he said. I met him a couple of years ago here in New Orleans....a gnomish little guy in suspenders. But Erwitt is still a sharp, funny, playful guy. I asked him to sign my dog-eared (pardon the pun) copy of his book "Dogs". He got a kick out of seeing the book..said he hadn't seen it in years. I love the guy's work...</p>
