Is not as bad as somebody may think it is !. I have'it all the time on my D50 and it perform quite well. On the D800 will be a special soft focus lens , and an excellent shock absorber if you ever drop your camera :-)

Hi Apurva, in the last month you have started several threads related to the D800, which was announce less than a month ago:

Nikon D800 "Missing Features"

Film Vs Lens resolution.

D800 vs D700

Nikon D800 and Capture NX 2

It seems like sometimes you are interested in the D800 and sometimes not. If you have something like $3000 for a D800, I certainly would hope that you either already have some good lenses for it or have additional budget for some lenses. Moreover, you already have a good tripod and you practice good technique.

Whether you already have the 28-80 does not really matter. When you get the D800, if you already have that lens, put it on and see whether you are happy with the results. If you don't already have that lens, I am sure you know whether that is something you want to buy in order to use on the D800.

There are two versions of the Nikkor 28-80mm 1:3.5-5.6 AF-D lens. I have the newer version, with 0.4m close focus. It's pretty good. Here's a photo taken in 2008 with Black's ISO 200 film (probably the Fuji consumer film of the time) and scanned with a Nikon Coolscan V (100% crops to follow):

Shun, I am absolutely interested in D800, since I have been avoiding buying D700 for more than a year in anticipation of an update. The reason I am asking is that I already have the lens and was curious if it could be well utilized in a full frame camera.
Apart from that I do have some good optics already- AF-S 105 mm f/2.8, 85 mm f/1.4 AF-D, and 50 mm f/1.8.
I have some good examples of 28-80 on D90, one of which I am uploading here.

00a69Z-447613584.jpg.8b9eb5026aa50cdec3a5398eb67aa7d9.jpg
