Don. I don't think you should be too literal. Sarah is a regular contributor to the EOS forum and a big EOS user. The other

photo forums that I post shots on on Photo.net (MF, Leica and Canon FD) are not as strict. Indeed I am more guilty than

Sarah as this week (for the first time ever) I posted a non EOS shot (Leica M8) as I did not shoot an EOS body this week

(it is a long time since I last did that). Surely you should look at the image otherwise we will get into debates on should an

EOS body but a Leica R lens be admitted

Sorry, I thought it was Canon, not necessarily Canon EOS. I was just excited about the shot, because Natasha is customarily the unphotographable cat -- usually a featureless black hole wherever she happens to be, never willing to settle where you put her, and always quick to run away at the slightest click of a machine. ;-)

For a some time now I've used my G10 as my recreational camera and luckily have made a few good photos but I never even thought about posting those here because of the EOS requirement.

So I don't understand why we would want to change the rules now.

And just to help the 99 I'll post an EOS shot next week.

So I'm happy to respect the rules of this series of threads. My posting a Canon G11 shot was an honest mistake on my part. However, I am confused as to the intent of these threads, both here and elsewhere (e.g. the Nikon threads). Is the purpose to showcase what Canon EOS cameras can do? Or is the purpose for a community of Canon EOS photographers who know each other to hang out and show each other what interesting things they shot each week? I'm not really interested in participating if it's the former.

Sarah my assumption was the same as yours (a community of EOS photographers). For example the Leica and

rangefinder thread accepts photos from all kins of cameras and no one ever makes a fuss - indeed they accept EOS and

Nikon DSLR shots taken by people who use the forum. I appologies if posting a Leica shots caused issues but this was

not my intent - all of my prior posts on this forum have been taken with an EOS body (and mainly with a Canon EF lens)

Personally I favor the spirit of the rules, and the posters, than the letter of the law. Not that my opinion means anything :-)

I did have some early submissions, over two years ago, deleted by Josh because they were considered not current enough, but I post when I can.

With the Canon users being split amongst at least four forums it does mean we can never compete with the Nikon forum weekly image thread on numbers, but who cares? I now own a Nikon and a Canon but haven't posted over there as it doesn't "feel right", stupid I know but isn't that why half of us hang out here?

Take care everybody and don't let your spirits get dampened, I am off to have another go at birds in flight this week just because of these threads, I have never been told to wear a hat because "it can be messy" before!

Hope to "see" you all on Thursday, Scott.

I agree that we should 'generally' follow the rules but I personally like the idea of EOS photogs hanging out and sharing what they shot, regardless of equipment. Sarah's shot of her cat was great and I appreciated it having tried thousands of shots of our cats with only moderate success. I'm even more impressed that she got it with her G11!

LOL! Thanks, Andy! Yeah, some cats are beauty queens and will pose shamelessly. Natasha isn't that kind of cat, but she's at least slower to bolt in her old age. ;-)

I suppose my feeling about this theme is somewhat like Groucho Marx's "I wouldn't think of joining ANY club that would have ME as a member!" (... or words to that effect) I just hate anything that smacks of competition (and always have), but I'm admittedly weird that way.

The only observation I will make is that I see absolutely no difference between a Canon EOS shot with a film camera with a legacy EOS lens and Canon FD shot with the same legacy lens in the FD mount. Is the shutter that important? I also see no difference between a Canon EOS film and Canon FD shot using the same M42 lens adapted to either body. Really, who cares? Maybe a compact like the G11 is (or should be) in another sort of category. However, maybe the best thing is just to have a weekly picture thread that's mostly EOS, but open to all -- even Leica trash. ;-P Of course it's not my thread and not my concept, therefore not my rules.

I'm with Sarah about competition. I love all of the shots that have been posted. I hope that no one's goal is to have Canon photogs compete against Nikon photogs. It's alright as a jovial incitement to get people to post. Having forums for Canon and Nikon gives us 2 days of great content. And now we have mirrorless Monday as well! I'd say I'm hungry for Thursday's photos because of Lupo's posts, but that that may be a little much.
As for rules, they should probably be considered as guidelines.
