SHUTTER RELEASE BUTTON WON'T "CLICK":( - ZENIT!!!

Recommended Posts

Okay so I'm new here and I don't really know where am I supposed to write this but I'm getting really sad and mad because of this shutter release button won't work. I got this Zenit 12xp and it's really in a great condition, no scratches, everything's juuust fine. I got it from my mum because she used to take photos with it and now, since I'm in deep love with photography since I was 12 (5 and a half years passed), I think I could really handle it:) I mean, I know why, when and how to use shutter speed, aperture etc. ANYHOWWW, I just bought a new film for the camera, the old expert guy from the shop put the film in and showed me a bit how does it work when changing the film blahblah, and we made like, 2 photographs. then, when I went out, I've taken 2 more.AND THEN the shutter release button just didn't make that "click" sound! I can push it down but it won't take any pictures.nothing! There was some kind of solution - removing the lenses and then cleaning, then putting it back and it should work. I tried it. It didn't. Pleaaaaase help, any kind of solutions might help. I really don't want this camera to become just a shelf decoration :'(
if you have a comment like - "it's made in Russia and it's old..." ,then don't even write it.not helping, hahah.
thanks a lot!

00a8pF-450281584.jpg.4c31680553546f3ef5ddf9ed1ed488c4.jpg

Lynn, Nice looking camera. Cleans up nicely too. :-) I'm thinking this is the way it should look. Hope you get the problem solved. Sorry I can't help. I took your image as a challenge and ran it through Photoshop. Let us know how you make out. Best, LM.

00a8q8-450289684.jpg.9b72bacdf979569139f84e736a01ce03.jpg

On many Zenits, as on old Soviet Leica copies, the collar around the shutter release is the release for rewinding film. If that is in the rewind state, push it in and let it come back out. That might do the trick.

If you had pushed that in and/or twisted the collar it would, I suspect, keep you from advancing the film and taking pictures.

Of course, it is not impossible that the camera is 'broke', but these are usually pretty rugged.

Butkus has a manual at http://www.butkus.org/chinon/russian/zenith_12/zenith_12-splash.htm

BTW, this really should go to "Classic Manual Cameras" since it might even be possible that there were many more Zenits made than Leicas or other "mainstream" cameras. This is not an "alternative" camera in world perspective. ;)

Millions and millions of cameras! That's our slogan.:)

You might also be interested that your Helios lens is a very near copy of the classic Zeiss Biotar 58mm f/2 lens, one of the all-time classics. Most of the Soviet ones are pretty darn good in their own right.
