Wanted: Links to online tutorials and learning software for beginning photographers

There are a variety of video tutorials at The Mindful Eye http://www.tmelive.com/

Click on Features for a list of the various resources. A beginning or intermediate photographer would learn a great deal by watching the regular weekday feature on The Mindful Eye--The Daily Critique. Each day Craig Tanner discusses a viewer submitted image in a 5-10 minute critique. Some days Craig will focus on composition, on others he will emphasize post-processing, or lighting, or basic technical skills.

Here's a good series of easily accessible infotainment type tutorials for quickly improving casual posing for party pix, etc., even for headshots: Look Good in Pictures . Host Carson Kressley is just a wee bit too cutesy and precious for my taste, but the basics are good.

Very basic info for experienced photographers, but useful for novices and real estate agents who just need a little help to make better photos of home interiors and exteriors, a very common question here on the Beginner Forum.

I found www.DigitalPhotographySuccess.com an excellent resource for beginners. It is ebooks and a emag every month. The photographer is excellent, she's helped me personally. I had some questions about white balance I didn't understand and she helped me that day. Highly recommended.

Illustrated GIMP tutorials and photo tips for beginners:
pareandfocus.com
Full disclosure, Pare and Focus is my own site. It's original content not just re-posts of other people's material. Even the photography is my own. I don't use stock images. It's geared toward real beginners. Only basic computer literacy is assumed.
It's a pretty new site, so you'll have the added benefits of personalized attention to comments and real appreciation for feedback.

Thanks for being up front with the source, Kat, and no problem with the link since it's directly relevant to this thread. I only glanced through the first page but it looks good - not many clearly illustrated GIMP tutorials around.

Thanks, all, for continuing to post info to this thread. Please feel free to refer new members to this thread when it might assist them in finding useful info.

Copy and paste the following as a referral. If you're using photo.net's WYSIWYG text editing box, it should copy the hotlink as well:

Wanted: Links to online tutorials and learning software for beginning photographers

Also, I've deleted a post and banned a fellow who posted a link to his own blog that contained virtually nothing but pirated copyrighted materials - photography books and PDFs. Yes, yes, I know, this stuff is already available via torrents and media hosting sites. But photo.net strives to avoid any association with piracy or copyright infringement. If you happen to notice any suspicious looking link referrals, please notify a moderator so we can check it out to be sure it's legit.

Again, thanks for contributing to this thread.

I've got a series of tutorials on the photography fundamentals that I've written myself. The tutorials are all illustrated and are presented with step-by-step instructions. These are tutorials I've made on my own site, so I hope this doesn't conflict with the thread rules or anything.

Understanding ISO in 3 Steps

Learning White Balance in 4 Steps

I hope this helps anyone who's beginning into photography or wants to brush up on the fundamentals.

Tola, in this case it's appropriate for this thread. I took a quick peek at a few of the tutorials and they seem to cover the issues well for beginners.

And I appreciate your informative answers on other beginner questions today, and cooperating with photo.net's policy on linking.
