Minolta 5400 II problem

<p>My film holder is stuck inside the scanner and I've tried everything from using the eject button to turning the scanner off and then on but nothing has worked. The scan utility software won't launch because the door is closed with the holder inside it. I get the error message that the door is not open. Any ideas as to how I might fix this short of sending it in for repairs. Not sure if it's worth it at this time. Also, are there step by step instructions somehere on how to disassemble the scanner so I can try to remove the holder myself. Thanks.</p>

<p>In the KM 5400 I there is a tiny hole on the left hand side near the on/off button. KM originally included a little wire tool for this problem but you can use a straightened large size paper clip for the same purpose. Try it. You don't have anything to lose and it should remedy the problem. If it doesn't there is a KM/Sony certified place that repairs these scanners where I sent mine once but I can't remember the name. Probably you could find a recommendation on the Sony web site. Good luck!</p>

Gil, the reset tool only works to close the door but does nothing to open it.</p>

i had a few bug with mine (5400) and i decided to open it. It is really easy, start to remove all the screws that hold the cover and slide it. There is a lot of gears but you will figured out which one to play with it to get some loose so you can reopen it.</p>

 

<p>Thanks everyone for your help. I opened the scanner and got the holder out. The scanner works again but for some reason I have to keep the cover off. Doesn't make sense but I'm not complaining as I can continue to scan my slides. Hopefully I'll be able to scan the rest of my slides collection of which I have about 700-800 left to scanned.</p>
