Nikon Wednesday 2012: #1

<p>Greetings everyone. Since birds seem to be the major theme for today, I took this back in May of 2011, at Cedar Key, Florida, it hurts everytime I look at it. Great shots, everyone.</p><div></div>

<p>with some xmas $ that i got, i went and bought a 35/2.8 PC nikkor from my local camera store, and that's been providing me with some photographic inspiration. i took it into town one afternoon to try it on some of the old-time college buildings, but today's offering is of one of the trains that run through the town center regularly. while there's nothing particularly shift-worthy in the image, i was impressed with the contrastiness and color rendered by the vintage optics of the nikkor PC.</p><div></div>

<p>While walking yesterday I happened upon these berries.</p><div></div>

<p>Despite the speculation earlier in the thread ... no, I was <em>not</em> sleeping off a New Year's hangover! A no-advance-warning collision of work-related drop-everything episodes erupted, and I neglected to let Shun know about starting this thread at midnight. But there he was anyway, doing the job! <em>Thank you</em>, Shun, for taking care of things. It's easy to forget how closely Shun watches and tends to the Nikon forum, and I'll take this first Wednesday of the new year to thank him for the years and years of attention he's given to its constructive, collegial, and fun atmosphere (hey, you too, Lex!).<br /><br />The good news is that one of my drop-everything projects was actually photography-related. A client in the home remodeling business just wrapped up several <em>years</em> of work on an historic home in Washington DC. He found out at the last moment that the house's new residents would be moving in <em>today</em>, so we had late yesterday to photograph his work on the place, or never again have the chance. I'll probably show one of those interiors in an upcoming Wednesday, but here's what greets you just outside the site's front door. It's the seal for the L'Enfant Conservation Trust, which aims to preserve Washington DC's unique architectural heritage.</p><div></div>

<p>Matt, I am glad you are fine. I always feel that it is highly unfair to require someone to start a new thread weekly at a fixed time, especially that person is a volunteer. Let's see whether we can let the computer do that automatically in the future.</p>

<p>Greetings from the depths of northern Ontario.<br>

Somebody took the thermometer and put it on a roller coaster. We've been from +4C to-29C and then back up to 0C in less than 2 weeks. The little lady takes it all very stoically. </p><div></div>

<p>Lots of beautiful pictures this morning. Finlay, I feel like I can see the wind in the postures of those birds. </p>

<p>On the last day of our Christmas visit, my sister and I pulled out family slides and scanned a few of them. As you can see, the task was made easier by large drinks from Sonic. :)</p><div></div>

<p>Not to denigrate previous contributions, but this week seems to have consistently impressed me. I'm loving the pelicans, especially as they seem to have flown south from here. It's been unseasonably clear and dry this winter. Nevertheless, the fog's still around to taunt us.</p>

<p>This lantern is part of the Lux Helsinki event with various light art exhibits presented in different parts of the city. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to photograph them finally with some snow, which was not possible on Saturday.</p><div></div>

I've never posted on the Wednesday pic before, but I'm going to make a point to do it every week (give me an excuse to get out and shoot) as my New Years resolution.<br>

I forgot it was Wednesday already, so I just took a trip downtown during my lunch break to take a quick shot or two. Here it is in downtown Sudbury, Ontario.</p><div></div>

<p>Here is mine. Recent trip to the playground with my 3 year old. Caught this shot just right. She had been going down the slide alot and had quite a bit of Static electricity built up.</p><div></div>

One resolution I have is to learn a little something from you guys to enhance my photos. <br />For today's entry, when the weather gets cold here in South Florida, the iguanas get lethargic, sometimes falling out of trees. The smart ones head to areas that get sunshine and heat up, like on the pilings around bridges. Here’s a local natives last week.</p><div></div>
