auto s2 aperture

Hi.
Just got a really nice (looking) Konica Auto S2. Shutter speeds seem accurate, even the slow ones. Meter works, and is accurate, as confirmed with a hand held meter.
I notice, however, that when "dry firing" the camera (that is, without film in it) the aperture apparently does not get bigger, nor does it get smaller, even when the aperture is changed from say, f1.8 to f11. The shutter opens and closes and is not sluggish in the least. I cannot see any oil on the aperture blades.
I am hoping against hope (don't want to spend more money) that it is because there is no film in the camera. If I recall, some cameras actually need film in them in order to work properly.
Sooooo.... is it because I have no film, or do I need a cla?
Thanks in advance for your help.
