edvigil
Does anyone have any suggestions for shooting cheerleaders? I have been invited to take photos during various sporting events. I have not been too please with the photos. I take great action photos for the sports for some reason the cheerleaders don't come out that great. Any tips?

tom_mann1
What don't you like about your images of them? Composition, lighting, color, sharpness, etc.?

It would be much easier to make relevant comments if you could post some example images.

Tom M
paf iii
I agree with Tom, the tamron lens you a are using should be sharp and fast enough aperture wise but focus speed it's a little slow by comparison. Posting shots will help.
acedigital
If you are getting too many shadows outdoors, use fill flash to balance out the harshness from sunlight and when doing group shots, make sure you shoot with sun at their back if possible, and/ or under shade with fill flash. dan-padavona
Fill flash will definitely help with the shadows, but you are going to want to use burst mode for the jumps, etc and flash won't help you there. I find that I can use almost any Canon lens on a 1D body and still get fast, accurate focus. My favorite however is the 70-200 2.8, which is generally zoomed all the way out when up close with the cheerleaders.
Another bit of advice is to get to know the coach of the cheerleading team. He/She should be able to tell you about their routines, and when they will be performing certain jumps, pyramids, etc. Knowing what to expect ahead of time vastly increases your keeper rate.
