jorge
I have a Pentacon Six TL with a plain groundglass+condenser screen that is a bitch to focus on, specially with short lenses. Does anybody know if different screens ever existed and, if so, where might I find one? Something with a split wedge and microprism collar like new Kiev screens would be nice but in fact anyhing brighter that the original will be welcome. Thanks in advance for any input. andre_la_pierre
Hi Jorge, You can send the Pentacon to Praktica service. It's in the Endelstrasse in Dresden, if my memory serves me right. If you like,I can find the exact address. Another possibility would be to sendthe camera there via Roskam Optics in Holland. This is a Praktica andKiev expert where I have found very good service and quality equipment at fair prices. For a rather nice price the folks in Dresden will have the camera checked, adjusted if necessary and the screen will be replaced by a good Rollei screen. All at the 'old' Pentacon factory which is now owned by Heinrich Mandermann (Schneider). Hope this helps. Regards, Andre
stephen_poe1
If you live in the US, you might consider getting in touch with Bill Maxwell of Maxwell Precision Optics, PO Box 33146, Decatur, GA 30033 (404)244 0095. He makes replacement screens or can modify your existing screen so that it is much brighter and claims to be able to do so for just about any camera. You can send your camera to him or he will send you a screen for installation by your own repairman. I have just sent him one of my cameras (Hasse 500c with the usual dim, flat 500c image). If you are interested, email me back and I will send you my review when I get the camera back.
jorge
Thanks Andre and Stefan for the response. I don't live in the US but in Mexico. However I have friends in the US that could handle the camera for me or I could even send it myself --no big deal since NAFTA. Of course the address in Georgia is much more convenient than sending the camera to Germany or Holland... I think that would probably cost more than the camera is worth. In that case I would rather start looking for a used Exakta 66 III with the advantages of more accurate viewfinder and MLU. I'll get in touch with Bill Maxwell and try to get an estimate. Best regards, --Jorge.
paul_destocki__ii
Hi Jorge, I know it's late in the game but look on ebay for sellers cupog or milanz. They both sell different screens for the Pentacon Six TL. I just purchased the rare grid screen fom cupog. Hope this helps.
ramiro_elena
<p>I found a focusing screen for the Pentacon Six on eBay from a seller called Arax. Since the screen they sell is much thinner than the original I asked them how that worked.<br> Response: "Sorry, I don't know"</p> <p>Has anyone tried third party screens that are thinner than the original? Any comments on performance and mounting them?<br> Thanks!</p>
jorge
Since they focus on the bottom side, it shouldn't matter.
ramiro_elena
<p>Yes Jorge, I came to that conclusion too but mounting would be different with such difference in thickness.</p>
