Cheap Color film

Recommended Posts

"A few months ago I was down in Indiana and bought some color film in one of the Amish stores."
Now that must have been something unusual as the Amish faithful eschew all use of electricity and modern devices.
Their darkrooms are eternally dark! Sort of Fred Flintstone School of Photography.
As a side note: I just returned from Kalona Iowa, largest Amish community west of the Mississippi, where oddly enough the town's photography studio was shuttered and condemned unfit for occupancy.

I wish I knew where to get some of this film in Southern California. It seems the only place I can find Ferrania is on ebay for ridiculous prices.

I've been dying to get my hands on a load of Ferrania film. I really like its color interpretation.

By the way, I also really like your posted photos.

I agree that it's not a bad look at all. Nice find!

IMHO in the near future we'll certainly be able to buy film. No problem. The only catch is that it's going to be the best film you can buy. There will be no room in the film market for budget priced emulsions. If you're shooting film you're going to be doing so deliberately and not because you can't afford it.

Perhaps I'm wrong - and I sort of hope so, as I love variety. My film packaging and 135 cassette collection testifies to that.

I hope this will not cause too much pain in the audience, but I'll just let you know that Ferrania/Solaris gave up any interest in photography market. After more than a decade of deep troubles the company itself died (it already went down from a maximum of 3400 to around 200 employees) and in 2010 restarted as a photovoltaic modules related business. Hopefully former employees will join the new activities, but there is no chance at all to restart film production (even the buildings are being destroyed to be subsituted by something more suited to the new activity).
Sorry for the bad news...

Well Giulio, I'm sure that's not what some people wanted to hear but it's better to know than to wonder. I guess that I'll just keep looking for off or house brand film and check to see if it's made in Italy.

I feel like I have a little more latitude than some because I develop my own film. If I buy some cheap, outdated, no-name film and nothing comes of it, I'm only out my time and maybe some chemicals. :D

Karim and Richard, thanks for the compliments! And Larry....go ahead and make your jokes. I mean, EVERYONE knows you can't help yourself! lol! ;D

Mike : D
