marc_batters
A tad vague, Gregory. Are you searching for sympathy, abandoning film, or posting a classified?<grin>
gregory_c
Marc, sorry you think it is vague, not abandoning film, I was raised on a waist level finder ! I remember many times shaking bird seed out of my WLF after weddings ! Been shooting mostly digital for some time. No posting a classfied either, I will use ebay, I get much better coverage of potential buyers. During film days it was MF shooters dream to own Hasselblad equipment. I was excited to be able to buy a new one. At a wedding NO ONE had a better camera than I did. Now days, uncle Joe will pop out his Canon 1D MarkII with a L series lens & all you have is a 60D. Sure the difference is the skill, but come on, we are guys & we want better stuff than anyone because we were paid to do a job.
but things change in life,

Lou_Meluso
Marc, sorry to hear you have to let a beloved bit of kit go. I know from personal experience how that feels. You get attached to these tools and there is often a feeling of anxiety and loss. I let my Hassy system go under the same circumstances but, years later, discovered the Mamiya and Bronica systems I now use and enjoy so much I no longer have pangs for the previous gear. Down the road, things will improve.
kris-bochenek
I just got a Mamiya RB67 Pro S. Before I bought it I told myself that I would not buy another camera until I could afford a Hasselblad 500 with chrome lens. I guess I'll just stick with Mamiya. It sucks to let your beloved camera go. As for "uncle Joe" I wouldnt worry about it. It's the skills. As to film I was attending a graduation ceremony few months back and I saw a lady in her 60's with a Rolleilflex while everyone was using digital she was there as if frozen in time you know like in those photos where one person is standing still and cars and pedestrains are moving
Robin Smith
I have to say I was relieved to sell off my Hasselblad kit. For me it had become obsolete, beautiful as it was.
Robin Smith
kparratt
So, .. going back to Marc's question, precisely what WAS the reason for the thread?

... we are guys & ...

Well Jenny is kind of right you know ;-)
But tell us anyway. You do not ask a question, neither do you post an image, so ...?
ingemar_lampa1
Sorry Greg, but also I have to agree with Jenny. I can't see the point of your post either. Unless of course, its a "wind-them-up" of some sort. Which is also pointless, IMHO.

But I feel your rude reply to her was out of line at any rate. But that is just me and my personal opinion of course.

But that is just me and my personal opinion of course

No Ingemar, it's not just you and your personal opinion. Kiss-my-ass's threat to Jenny is about as bad as it gets on Photo.net. Anyway, Jenny is a good friend of mine and we met for lunch in Oslo today, and had a good laugh at it all.
Cheers, Kevin

... and I hope that Hasselblad finally ends up with someone who knows how to use it. ;-)
q.g._de_bakker
Kevin,

I agree that it is about as bad (not quite) as PN gets.

But that behind kissing theme was not a threat to Jenny, but introduced in this thread by Jenny.
So what did you laugh about again? And why?

Gregory,

Selling the camera will not leave you with much money. And seeing that you are going to hang on to a lens and back, why not the camera too? kparratt
Q.G., Now come on! This is nothing more than retaliatory threat:

or I will blow yours up with a bunch of stupid stuff like you have mine,,,

I fear you have not read things very well. Intoxicated by the opportunity to dig at Jenny and/or myself?
However, as you have asked, we were laughing at the banality of the thread in the first place, and his chauvanistic conceit. Half of responders wondering if he'd actually forgotten to add something of substance .. like a question? ... or whatever. And to top it off, the hilarious, sulking school boy reaction.

But the laughter exploded when I said to Jenny, "Do you want to lay odds on how long it takes Q.G. to take the bait" , and words to the effect: "with the sole purpose of having a go at us .. "(me and Jenny)

Take note that you do not dig at others who question the point of the thread, only Jenny and myself. ;-)

Q.G., sorry, but you are as predictable as Gregory's thread is vacuous.

Jenny called this evening to tell me I owe her a lunch, Ha ! ... because we laid odds on how long it would take you. She won!
q.g._de_bakker
Kevin.
In general, and knowing you, with you in particular, when people don't share your viewpoint, it's more likely it is because you, not they, did something wrong.
The OP's post got an unfair and unnecessary 'beating'. Ah well. That's life.
Then some rather obviously confused person (you know who you are, don't you?) thought it fitting to 'beat up' the OP for getting an unfair and unnecessary 'beating'. In a rather supercilious and super silly way too.

And now you are... uhm... that person is trying to be funny.
Only trying, Kevin, doesn't help.

In short, and to paraphrase: your 'vacuousity' is a perfect reflection of the succes of your attempt to cover up your inane confusion.
:P

But perhaps amazingly, Kevin, i still agree with you: telling people to kiss your behind, then boasting about how you laughed about it over a meal, is indeed as bad as PN gets. eric_duncan3
Gregory's post is concise, but it is commentary on medium format photography, and on the present climate for photographers, both in equipment trends, and econimically, and therefore not pointless. It is Jenny's comment which says nothing about photography, and is a pointless personal attack. Jenny, if you thought Gregory's post pointless, why did you waste precious time posting a response, and not simply move on to a post in which you did see a point?

kparratt
Eric's misreading is right on the nail, and the substance of Jenny's play on words, loaded with Gregory's own posturing. You really don't get it do you Q.G. All the more fodder for laughter you are.

Ahoy! Northern Hemisphere! Anyone creative still around up there!?

Yes John, but the much of the best is in German and Japanese language sites. Still a lot of good material in other photo.net forums of course, such as one of my favourites, the B&W Processing and Film, and reliable information always at Large Format, but any mention here of Hasselblad, and the old dog emerges to mark his territory. Sad thing is, he can't even cock his leg and aim straight any more. He just waddles around dribbling everywhere. On technical issues, he really does have a good stash of bones, but it is a yard full of hazards. One must be careful not to step in anything.
q.g._de_bakker
Kevin, you old thingy, do you really believe continuing the crass vein this helps divert attention from the crass way you boasted about the crass way in which Jenny suggested that the OP was asking us to kiss his rear end? And that veiled as a complaint about how bad PN gets?
You probably don't get the irony of it all. Ah well... ;-)

As for me, i don't mind what you say.
Not, when once more i have to agree with you: you should indeed not step in the pile of your own smelly stuff.
