Mamiya 645E "LT" Shutter Speed....

All,
Just a quick question if I may....
The "LT" setting on the shutter speed dial on the Mamiya 645E - I've read it stands for "Long Tim", but on very long exposures, will this setting correctly calculate the shutter speed for the given conditions, ISO, f-stop etc?
I've had variable results recently with the LT setting and am not convinced the camera is holding the shutter open for the desired/excact amount of time. The LT setting seems to be a bit vague (or it might be me who doesn't know how it works properly!).
Thanks in advance.

I've never used a 645E, but I checked the manual here:

http://www.cameramanuals.org/mamiya_pdf/mamiya_645e.pdf

and it indicates that in AE mode, the LT function only controls the shutter speed "to give correct exposure at speeds between 4 and 1sec." If you go to that link, scroll down to page 19 for a fuller, though still incomplete explanation of that function. It seems like the LT indicator in the viewfinder just lets you know that the calculated exposure is longer than 1sec, but shorter than 8sec, which is longest exposure the camera will do in AE mode. Hope that helped.

1/1000 to 8 sec. is the max allowed in AE mode; 1/1000 to 4 sec. for plus B in manual mode.(page 32 Mamiya 645E Instructions).

I do own a 645E , with the 45mmf2.8 ,55mmf2.8, 80mmf2.8, and a 150mmf3.5 lenses.

The 645E will calculate the correct shutter speeds when set for Aperture Priority ("A" or "AEL") is chosen. Just set the aperture and ISO, focus, and the camera will do the rest.

If more seconds are needed, then set to manual/Bulb, and use an external light meter to determine your exposure settings.
