Epson 3800 Nozzles Clogged

Recommended Posts

This was moved to the wrong forum; Apologies for the duplication.
My Epson3800 print head is clogged. I've tried several power cleanings and head cleanings but they haven't made the slightest difference. The nozzle test looks exactly the same and the prints are very bad. Bands all across the image area. Epson said the problem is the nozzles and their only recommendation is to take it to one of the two service centers near New York City. I think that's going to be about $550. I could get a refurbed printer for about $800. So, not sure what to do.
Is there any other nozzle cleaning action I can do myself? Or any check I can make?

Thanks.

The print head on the 3800 seems to be inaccessible. Perhaps it isn't but it seems that way. It's on the far right. How would I actually do this operation with Windex and/or alcohol?

Resurrecting an older thread.

My 3800 has a clogged PK head with very little showing up on the nozzle check. Epson has recommended the service center which as someone pointed out is roughly a $600 job if their cleaning solution does not clear the head. With a new printer costing less than half that I am reluctant to go there.
I started Power Cleaning with the intention of running until the ink runs out and am now awaiting another Maintenance Cartridge since the old one filled quickly with some rather expensive product.
I am ready to try the Windex trick on a paper towel if I can slide it under the stalled head in the center or pour a bit on the resting place on the right side. I do wonder if anyone has had luck with this?
