mike_wagner6
I don't know if they use matrix metering with AI lenses, but the fact that they meter with them and help with focus is huge to me.
mike_wagner6
I should have stated that I am interested in auto focus film SLRs. I know that my Nikon D200 and D300 do it well.

jeff_z.
I think that the N6006, N8008/N8008s, and F4 through F6, all will meter with AI lenses. However, I think only the F4 and F6 will give you matrix metering with those lenses; I think that the rest will default to center-weighted when you choose matrix. It's very likely that I did not complete this list as I'm not that knowledgeable about all of this, but I think what I gave you is accurate, and hope that helps. I'm sure others will have a more complete understanding of the various AF bodies.
Matthew Currie
The F100 will meter with AI lenses at full aperture in center weighted and spot, defaulting to CW when matrix is selected. Manual or aperture priority exposure, defaulting to A when P or S is selected. Also does not show aperture in the display, but it works fine and provides focus confirmation.
andylynn
The F100 is my choice - all-around fantastic camera, does meter with AI lenses (not matrix - I'm pretty sure only the F4 and F6 have both AF and matrix with AI lenses) and it has 5 point AF with focus confirm dots. If you want to save some money, the N90 does most of what the F100 does (but doesn't power VR).
Michael R Freeman
Manual focus Ai/Ai-S lenses will meter on the following Nikon autofocus film bodies:
N2020/F-501, N6006/F-601, N8008(s)/F-801(s), N70, N90(s)/F90(x), F100, F4(s), F5, F6

Only the F4 (which senses maximum aperture mechanically via the lens speed post) and the F6 (you need to enter non-CPU lens data IIRC) will matrix meter with Ai/Ai-S lenses. All others will default to center-weighted metering if matrix metering is selected.
jim_momary
F4 and F6 - (the F5 does not, but it does do CW and Spot). Only the A and M mode function.
F100 - also only does CW and Spot. Only the A and M mode function, but in M there is no aperture readout in the viewfinder.
P and S modes are out the window.

Jim M.

jim_momary
Jean -
Mike wanted "matrix", that makes the F4 or maybe the FA the first and not the F3 family.
Splitting hairs.
:o)
shiang_wang1
AI/AIS lenses on N90s/F100 camera behave just like your D200 or D300, they switch to center weighted even you have it set at matrix. Certain manual focus lenses with CPU will meter in matrix, such as Voigtlander or Zeiss.
