This past week was devoted to destressing myself after too much work and related stress, some family stress and my own reaction to all of this. I took myself to a retreat centre close to Pretoria. For me, photography can be like a meditation.
I'm starting a series of photographs, which I hope will form the basis of a small exhibition, together with some artists. What struck me as a goal is a rock and a leaf from each of South Africa's 9 provinces, possibly throwing in a few of the other Southern African countries as well if I get to them before it's all assembled.
Start with the leaf.

I spent Saturday morning shooting with the Nikon at the Zoo (shameless plug - check my blog for some baby tiger pictures), but on Sunday switched over to the K-7 and the Limiteds, my favorite sightseeing set up, for a walk around Balboa Park with some visiting relatives. We went to the Mingei International Museum of Folk Art in San Diego's Balboa Park. They have an exhibit of Maneki Neko, or Japanese beckoning cats, that is great.

Several of these were behind glass, and I had forgotten my polarizer in the backpack I had to leave at the entrance counter, so I tried to get creative with the reflections.
