Firenze and a Zeiss Ikon Nettar 517/2

I have that camera with the same lens, the lens is really sharp with full coverage eve wide open. There is something wrong there. It is a lovely lens in a very compact and light 6x9 camera, perfect for travelling.

I agree with Peter. I see this often on other cameras I have and it doesn't bother me. You'd think the smaller the aperture the less vignetting but I wonder if it's more to do with film flatness? In any case it soesn't detract and the image is nice and sharp.

I have a 518/16 taking 6x6 but essentially the same f6.3 lens. I find the dark corners even at f16. I have a feeling that this might be a characteristic of the Novar lens. My Ikonta with Tessar lens (1937) is very different and shows no sign of vignetting.
The Novar is a lowest end of the Zeiss family and I read somewhere that these lenses might have been made my Rodenstock/Steinhel. However, stopped down, they should be very good performers.

Thanks to all for the useful comments. The last time I used the Nettar was about 2 to 3 years ago. Indeed, I found I has not vignette in the old pictures. So, may be there are some kind of problem with the lens..... In any case I like the picture a lot!!!! The sharp is unbeleivable...I guess.....
Here you can find a bigger picture... a compressed jpg pic 3.500 wide... so you can see the picture in a more confortable way....
Warm regards
Federico

btw.... no hood

with the same camera 2 years ago

I suspect film flatness, especially at the larger "formats" of 120 film, in addition to lens characteristics. But honestly when I see the lengths "hipsters" go to in order to get that "classic" look... and here it is, the way its supposed to be - it looks like it was taken with "one of those classic cameras" because...well...it was:) I love it. And I get to use the word "hipster", which is a bonus.

Great pics of a wonderful city, Federico. The whole feel of these images seems to exude the character of the city, and the shimmering quality of the beautiful Mediterranean light. I love Pic#2 with the Arno winding it's way through. I think the old Nova lens was a great choice. Thanks for a fine post.

I had a camera that had a problem with vignetting some years back. It was my Kodak Signet 35. It turned out that the shutter leaves were sticking. After completely stripping down the shutter and cleaning it out, it hasn't done it since. Beautiful pictures by the way.
