Not much to choose from this week because I've been busy building a new computer (Sandy Bridge! Whoo hoo!), working out the bugs and loading it up. Also the ongoing jungle removal project in the back yard with another trailer load to the dump. Anyone want a picture of the dump?
But Sunday was nice and my shooting buddy and I went down the peninsula from San Fran and hit upper Purisma and then out to the coast for the sunset.

Strobist Info:
Camera: Canon EOS 50D
Lens: Canon EF85mm f/1.8 USM
Exposure Program: Manual (M)
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/2.0
Focal Length: 85 mm
ISO Speed: 125
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: On, Fired
Flash Mode: Manual
Wireless Mode: A+B

Note: I set the camera to a manual white balance of 4600K. This brought the CTO geled flash down to a normal color temperture while at the same time bringing the backgound in a cooler blue temperture.

Flash 1: Canon 580EXII ~ Wireless: Enabled, Master: Disabled, Mounted to the camera. (Used as a remote only, did not contribute to the lighting of the scene.)

Flash 2: Canon 430EXII ~ Group A, mounted to a stand right of the model (camera left) about 10 feet off the ground shooting through a 1/2 CTO gel into a large 64" silver umbrella.

Flash 3: Canon 430EXII ~ Group B, mounted to a stand left and slightly behind the model (camera right) about 3 feet off the ground shooting bare, zoomed to 24mm.

Wow! Some really great stuff y'all!
By order of my girlfriend I took some portraits of a newly engaged couple for the said girlfriend's project. You'll see it again later I'm sure. Anyway as I was unhappy with their stiff, ultra-posed look I decided to have a little fun with one...
Heed the signs, they warn you away for a reason!

00YZNU-348413684.jpg.88f4c28524816755363197b9541f71d6.jpg

Twenty-five years ago an instructor at Navy Photo School made a positive impact on me when he said it's your job to take the otherwise ordinary and mundane, and make it interesting.

A simple Oxygen Nasal Cannula with extension line, just one example of many thousands of ordinary things I shoot for the old day job. I've learned that most everything can be beautiful, you just have to cast it in the right light.

00YZO1-348425584.jpg.3d1eb5f96e51b620f9cfca84a538c007.jpg

I had no opportunity to take photos this week, so I will post another one from about two weeks ago. I've been trying to figure out why I can see the fence that I am shooting through in the bokeh of specular highlights, but haven't figured it out yet! (Canon 40D, Canon 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM, 1/125, f6.7, ISO 800, Av +1/2 bias, 300mm).

thanks Fennel, I shot in raw and converted the file to jpeg in lightroom. then took it to photoshop and swapped the blue and red channels and applied auto levels. I also removed the magnenta with the selective colour tool. I did IR previously with a G2 and am looking forward to exploring more with the XSI. Cheers.
