Nikon Wednesday Pic 2011: #14

<p>This past weekend was the 30th Annual Scottish Highland Games in Honolulu. Caught this young girl practicing before the dance competition and thought it was an interesting shot with Diamond Head in the background.<br>

<p>Great pics! I like most Lorne, Jennifer, Jeannean and Erik Ch. My pic is from the top of Kiilopää, Saariselkä, Finland. I was cross-coyntry skiing ja found some reindeers picking their meals.</p><div></div>

<p>D700, ISO 2500, 105mm f/4 Micro AIS. 1/320 @ f/11 I think (forgot to set the non-CPU lens info on the camera so EXIF is wrong).</p><div></div>

<p>Bald Eagle Flies Over the Moon<br>

Traveling up the river valley a wild bald eagle crossed paths with the moon in the western sky.</p>

Mine this week was actually shot a couple weeks ago while taking our daily walk at a county park. This little frozen pond caught my eye with the pattern that the ice had taken on. <br>

Like Mikhail's golden, this is my resident squirrel chaser...also specializing in cats, crows, the neighborhood wild turkeys, soft frisbies, tennis balls.....</p>

<p>Great photos today. Greg, Jean, love those bird pictures. Lorne, that orchid does look surreal, maybe your niece is right! I missed looking at last week's photos thanks to Mother Nature advising me I needed to upgrade my PC by cooking my old one. Oh well, the new one is nicer and a lot faster. So, no PC, no internet, got bored and took some shots. This one came out rather odd, only because of the lighting and what it is.</p><div></div>

<p>Good morning. My Hyacinth bed taken with a PC-E at full tilt (which was not enough to get the focus plane horizontal).</p><div></div>

<p> I went on a guided fishing trip Saturday with my close friend. When we got back to the dock the captain started to clean our catch. This drew a crowd of about 30 pelicans and other assorted birds. I just stood there and shot 200 pictures of the pelicans fighting over the leftover fish parts. Each time he would throw in a piece of fish this guy would try to reach out and grab the fish without diving into the pile. He was about 5 feet from the fish each time. I don't blame him. There was quite a scrum in the water. Its a good thing pelicans don't have sharp teeth. Nikon D3, Nikon 24-120 3.5, F/13, 1/2,000 ss, 90mm, ISO 800.</p><div></div>

<p>The road to the Spring?</p><div></div>

<p>Continuing with my recent Florida wildlife series of 'wanabees' theme, I took this shot while on a budget Florida walking safari in Pompano Beach. I caught this rare beast, a Dion (1/2 dog, 1/2 lion) chasing its prey, a rare Black Labrapanther.</p><div></div>

<p>Greetings from the depths of northern Ontario. Woke up to 1cm of fresh snow and -8C this morning. I just want to get above winter and move on.</p><div></div>

<p>Now I finally believe that Spring is with us! I spotted this Comma butterfly fresh out of hibernation this morning and stalked it around the garden for about 15 minutes in my carpet slippers.</p>

<p>OK, the picture is no masterpiece, more "proof of life". Tech data: D700 + Tamron 90mm macro; f/16, 1/400th, ISO800, continuous AF.</p><div></div>

<p>Went to the Cherry Blossom festival over the weekend and walked around the ellipse with the masses. Got some great pictures.</p><div></div>

<p>Favorite day of the week as always. Nice shrubbery, Kent! </p>

<p>Mine is a Great Horned Owl from a local raptor centre. I was at the Maple Syrup festival in the same area, but this turned out to be more 'interesting'.</p><div></div>
