richard_oleson
well, if it's any consolation .... it's better being outside than bouncing around between the mirror and the shutter.....

phil_green1
could anyone post up a picture of how the mirror stop assembly should look ?
mark_farrell
I'll try to post an image of it if I'm lucky. It does look like it is the fine adjustment screw for the mirror angle.

rodeo_joe1
That's the mirror brake/rest, and yes it will GROSSLY affect the performance of the camera. The mirror can't come to a precise resting position without it, and consequently the focusing will be way off. The bottom of the viewfinder screen will show correct focus but not the centre and top. This is a big deal!

The good news is that the part isn't too expensive - if you can get hold of it. The bad news is that fitting it is a nightmare, since it involves tensioning a spring and screwing the little plastic lever into place at the same time. The strain you have to put on this nasty little plastic part in order to fit it is close to its fracture limit - probably why the stupid thing breaks in the first place.

So thanks Mamiya. Ever thought of using metal for these critical little parts?
rodeo_joe1
Oh BTW. Glue will NOT work, there's too much spring pressure and anyway the type of plastic used doesn't take any known glue easily.

You'll also have to re-align the mirror after replacing the mirror-rest arm, and keep the small screw since it's often not supplied with the arm.
phil_green1
Cheers Joe, you have been an amazing help and it looks like it is going to be an absolute nightmare to sort this problem out and it looks as though that part should have been metal and not plastic on an a pro camera.
rodeo_joe1
You're welcome Phil. I had two of these little buggers break on my M645 Super bodies, but so far the Pro TL has stayed intact. I might just order a spare or two while they're still available though.
mark_farrell
I wonder how many others are looking at their 645's for broken parts after seeing this thread? :)

ttlkurtis
Would love more information on adjusting this little screw. Mine is still intact but back focusing consistently.
