bikealps
Like usual, I photographed a bicycle race. This time it was the Beat the Clock Time Trial.
We expected wet and cold weather, heavy rain and temperatures in the low 40s. The race starts just after sunrise. We did not expect the highway patrol to be running traffic breaks on the highway nearby. They did so to prevent accidents as there was 1" of slush and hail on the road.
Ordinarily I would be racing, but I knew the weather would be atrocious. Such weather makes for miserable cycling but great photos. So I brought the camera instead. Here are my six favorite photos from the day.
I processed some of the photos as black and white. B/w seems like a good choice to bring out the coldness of the weather and it removes the distracting colors of the multi-colored outfits the cyclists wear.

bikealps
this one definitely works better in b/w than color

scottferris
I shot a bike race this weekend as well. The Keyesville Classic Mountain Bike Stage Race. We had similar weather and I really tested out the weatherproofing on the D2x. I have two photos for you guys.
This is what was supposed to happen on the downhill course.

scottferris
But, there always has to be that guy who falls. Who knew it was going to be onto me?! This rider lost traction on the rock above me, slid out of the course, and took me and my gear out. Sometimes your two choices are get the shot, or get out of the way. I got the shot...and a tire imprint on my forehead. It also broke a lightstand and cybersyncs transmitter. I can't help but laugh when I look at the photo though, and in the end I can't bring myself to be mad about it.

richard_reeve3
In keeping with the two wheels theme I photographed a Vinduro. A non competitive event for pre 1985 Enduro bikes (and more than one pre 1985 owner as well).
#1

#2

#3

#4

#5
