henry_obert
Hello everyone. Have any of you seen something like this before? The inside of this Nokton looks like someone speckled it with white spraypaint. I thought it was some kind of mold or fungus but when I look through the glass .... its perfect. Only one spec of dust. But when looked at at an angle it looks horrible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
paul_wheatland
Shine a flashlight (torch) through if from each end, that will tell you the real deal. Dealers at camera shows always seem to carry the small "maglite" just for this purpose when examining lenses for purchase.
john_shriver
At the edges of the elements? That's just poor or failing black paint on the rough edges of the glass elements. The image doesn't go through there. It may slightly increase flare.
henry_obert
I agree John , it does appear to be the paint. But why is the inside of the lens NOT littered with little black flakes? Is the paint just cracking and pulling away from itself ..... revealing the metal?
t_nu_tamm
Henry, the white spots are caused by the internal reflection in glass. They appear as soon as the paint is slightly separated from the glass, the flakes don't need to fall off.
One may also say they are just air bubbles between the glass and the paint.
robert_hooper1
Some repair people will repaint the edges of elements in this condition.
Gus Lazzari
When you're looking directly at the paint area (painted side), it can also look like tiny hairline cracks.
Viewed as bubbles on the side that you're seeing.

gabor_szabo3
Yup, all the above explanations are correct; nothing to worry about. Now go load up your Voigtlander and post the results here ( and Classic Manual Cameras forum).
