gulfbeach47
A friend sent me some links about the new show. Great move for the Weather Channel! It debuts March 31.
Watching the clips makes me want to hit the road and head west again....except for gas prices:(

http://www.weather.com/outlook/videos/master-photographer-peter-lik-18817

http://www.weather.com/tv/tvshows/peter-lik/video/peter-lik-visits-a-ghost-town-19893
Jeff Lear
Nice enough photos but so much yelling and frantic running around, I'm exhausted just watching.

Jeff Lear
I don't find either of these photographer's work particularly noteworthy. I think their relative success has more to do with personality than talent... at least that's the excuse I use when I wonder how it is they're being paid for this and I'm not ;)

I agree with Mr. Hill that it's a good move for TWC. Despite it's popularity, photography is a grossly underrepresented art on television.
john_h.1
Discussing f-stops and histograms may be too much for casual viewers but it would be helpful and maybe even more popular if some tips were thrown in here or there for people instead of just discussing how awesome some place is.
gulfbeach47
Mr. Hill?
Jeff..I mean Mr. Lear (joke) you just made me feel older. Oh wait I am old...hahahaa. I agree that Lik yells too much but I guess that's showbiz. He kind of overdoes it like the Crocodile Hunter did. As you also noted we don't see enough photography on television. I think we will find out about new places to visit on our next road trip. My last trip (Moab, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons) was a trip I have dreamed about for years. Driving from Pensacola, Fl. it ended up being over 6000 miles in two weeks. I wish I would of had at least 3 weeks but not all of can take extended trips like Mr. Lik and get paid for it. Not fair that he is living my dream:)
John Henneberger- Photo tips would be fantastic and I hope they show many, but I think the target audience will be the people that want to see awesome scenery and this guy hopping around cliff tops, death valley, beautiful beaches etc..
Sidenote: I even watch Survivor because I love to see the tropical locations, plus one contestant lives here in Pensacola now. Boston Rob (Not my favorite) Ok, Ok....I also like the back stabbing contestants. LOL A friend tells me that the show is awesome on his 50'' HD flats-creen. Grrrrrr....
Sidenote 2: I could kick myself for not taking pix of that powerful storm system through that passed by here and much of the southeast yesterday. There were a few tornadoes but some stunning cloud formations.
Jeff Lear

Mr. Hill?

Just trying to differentiate between the Johns... Even "John H." wouldn't have been enough. If it makes you feel any better, old people don't watch Survivor ;)
dried_squid
There's a Peter Lik store in Honolulu. It's absolutely wonderful to see large, as in 3x5 foot, glossy color prints. TV won't do his work, or his printer, justice. But I'm glad he's getting the opportunity to have his work reach a broader audience. Heck, I'm glad if any photographer's prints reach a broader audience. To me, photographic prints are integral to the notion of photography. Whether it's an art print or poster-sized ad at the mall. eric merrill
I saw the first episode in Hawaii. I'm less than impressed. I actually fell asleep watching it. I have it set up to record future episodes, so I'll see if they get any better before giving up on it.

I think the viewers' collective intelligence is insulted by showing Peter using a digital camera and then displaying his photos on screen as if they were in a film strip. Not sure why we need the fake film wind advance noise dubbed in, either.

Eric
imagesbybrl
I agree that it's refreshing just to have a photography show on the air. Wish there were more! One question, he gets some really awesome colors in his pan. But I read that he doesn't do HDRI, use photoshop and rarely uses filters. He and the Lik employees deny the use of computers to get those colors. Maybe I only read the wrong threads, but has anyone heard the same, and how does he get those colors? BTW I also agree, it's a turnoff with the yelling. But you have to hand it to the guy, he markets his images very well.
