joewhite
All I want is to whine that this lens is still on backorder since Jan. 30. It's not the dealer, particularly, since it doesn't seem to be available from anyone except the price-gougers; even they may be just wanting to charge your card and still make you wait.
Since I have only one lens at this point (50mm), there is no "normal" for my DX.
The Lord may not buy me a Mercedes-Benz, but could He/She please make Nikon produce some of these?
Ok, /whine off.
elliot1
It is currently available on Amazon for $209.99 with free shipping.
ShunCheung
Elliot, it looks like it is actually Ritz selling it at $210 through Amazon. Amazon's own price is $200 but they don't have it in stock.

craig_morton
Yeah, I've been lamenting the backorder of this lens as well. I also shoot DX (D300) and am eager to get a prime in this focal length and rediscover what I was taught about "composition" back in my collegiate days with film. But I also like 50mm on DX for sports. So, I have decided to go with either the Nikkor 50mm 1.4 G and the new 35mm 1.8G, OR for the similar ballpark price combo, go with the old standby Nikkor 50mm 1.8D and the Sigma 30mm 1.4. I think I'm going to go with the latter combo as I think the 20mm difference in focal length would be a more meaningful differentiation.
photo5
I've really enjoyed my 35mm 1.8. Took it on a hike last summer to Mt.Rainier, along with the 55-200mm. I wanted to go light so I left the big 16-85mm VR zoom at home, and I didn't regret it. Got a lot of excellent photos. It's a great lens.
http://hull534.smugmug.com/photos/992660849_hxneQ-XL.jpg

joewhite
Oddly, when you go to Ritz's own website, it states that the item is no longer available, so I'm assuming that whatever stock they had they are selling exclusively through Amazon and not directly from them.
I've also seen them on display at Best Buy (I'm 60 miles N of SF), but not in stock. Maybe they're at the SF store but I'm too cheap to pay the taxes.
Hope everyone that wants one gets a copy soon.
elliot1
Joseph/Shun, I found that as well which is why I directed the OP to Amazon.

I purchase a lot of items through Amazon and find on many occasions Amazon can be a little more or a little less expensive than the seller's site (when the order is not fulfilled by Amazon). And there is no consistency to it.

I bought the 35mm f1.8 lens for my D7000 the beginning of February for just 192.95. It has not been available since directly through Amazon. The offer through Ritz is reasonable (only $10 more than list price) considering there is no tax, no shipping and the lens is not readily available elsewhere. Or you can wait a bit longer.

UPDATE: Sold out at Amazon at the $209 price. The best price now is $299. Hope you got one at the lower price!
ShunCheung
For whatever reason, the 35mm/f1.8 AF-S DX has been in short supply for the last month or so. This is the 2nd thread here on that topic recently and there are similar complaints on other forums.

I believe I have seen them in stock at my local Best Buy (about 35 miles south of San Francisco) in the last couple of weeks, but at that time I wasn't aware of the shortage so that I didn't pay special attention to this otherwise very common lens. I think I saw a few of those boxes along with the 18-105 VR inside a "cage." But if everybody else is either running out or is gauging for some $100 more, I am sure Best Buy will run out as well.

Rene11664880918
Why dont you take a look at the Sigma 30 f/1.4 Some members here talk so well about it...... What's wrong with Nikon US? Here in Japan any Nikon lens is in stock on every camera shop. From 35 to 500 and anything else before 35. Maybe I should start shipping back to the States! :)

juanparmenides
Try to get one copy, it´s a nice lens for the price. I admit this lens has an almost 3D feel, I mean, the opossite to a zoom, this remember my 50mm Nikkors in Nikon analogic cameras. I bought mine in Tenerife and costs 159 Euros.

alex_zepeda
Rene: The Sigma 30 is expensive, poorly built, and backed up by a fantastically inept service department. For that you pay a premium of $200 over the Nikon 35/1.8. It's an overpriced toy. The Nikon is a steal for what it is.

KEH supposedly has a new one (35/1.8) in stock even.
