It's been a very busy week at my house, but yesterday I decided I needed some time for my camera. So I grabbed an orange and my flash, set everything up next to the dining room window, and worked on more food photography. It was a great way to relieve the stress of the week.

00YJpO-336587584.jpg.6d20cd0f268f841699f7e5051c2d2ecc.jpg

Dan ,did you use a ringlight for that shot? Truly awesome.

Thank you.

I used two softboxes left and right of the lens, all crunched together as close as possible. The trick was getting some light down the barrel, and it helped that the gun as was a snub-nosed revolver. Even then, I had the increase the brightness of the barrel-bullet in post. Also, note the blown highlights in the front of the gun. Back drop is woodland camo fabric from Wal-Mart, placed a few feet back to drop its brightness a couple stops.

@ Don Harper...I really enjoy the colors, layers and tones of your 'Dragon's Tail' image. I have heard about that strip, maybe someday I will get to visit.

@ Lisa E. Orange you glad you worked on your food photography? Hahaha...nice lighting :)

Pretty much all the pictures look great to me!
But, I have decided to comment on a few that I think are great.

Jens Frederiksen: Very pleasing surreal image. Warm tones, but cold, distant plume enhances coldness, nice composition.

David Tisker: Nice for framing on the wall. High contrast, rugged, geometric, simple. I like it a lot.

Lionel Linton: Great composition, mono-chromatic, simple, snow-covered, the footsteps subtly draw you in. I would hang that on my wall for sure.

Aguinado de Paula: Colors pop, fish is very interesting, but the boy's inquisitive look mirrors the viewers curious study of the fish. Bravo on that one.

Elliot Bernstein: Other than the dark object in the lower-right corner, great image. I can't decide if I love the picture, fear the dog, or will ever satisfy my curiosity about that moment?

Daniel Pope: Just cool :-)

Don Harper: Wow, that's in a whole other class. It might not be fair for you to compete here ;-)

Great shots as usual everyone. My favorites are:
Jens's landscape - beautiful colours
Aguinaldo's fish/boy portrait
Rick's young fisherman
John R's dog - the eyes leap out at you!
Anura's bird - great expression, great focus, great background bokeh

Mine is another portrait. My 10 year old daughter at the grandparents house.

Thanks Jennifer and Dan.
Dan your comment is funny from my perspective as I just learned this photo didn't even qualify in a professional photography competition. Judging photography and art really is very subjective.
I look at this thread as sharing rather than competing as the range of skills displayed here is really the full spectrum of from beginners to pros, all General Audience subjects and on a not infrequent basis truly amazing photos of all types. This is the place for fun and a chance for all of us to share. I think the thing we all have in common is that desire to say "Hey Look at what I saw and captured".

00YJwe-336665784.jpg.be8db9011696c90fa669ce9d77a914df.jpg

Great photos again this week. A few in particular caught my eye:

Rick Moran - wonderful scene, awesome DOF

Ben Schaefer - gorgeous pastel colors

Don Harper - great mood you captured

My subject these days is almost exclusively my son, so here's another one. :-)

00YJx1-336669584.jpg.ca75e40f03fee141d91be2a4ae990da1.jpg

Happy Wednesday all, so may beautiful photo's. I decided to go out this afternoon to the country with Karen and George for a walk. It was sunny and cold but that did not stop us from enjoying our winter wonderland.
Nikon D3100.
