EOS D60 % Windows 7

I need help interfacing a D60 to Windows 7 Home Premium. Windows 7 doesn't recognize the camera, and complains there's no driver for it. After installing the EOS utility, it still does not recognize the camera. The whole setup works fine in Windows XP. Please share your experience with this camera on Windows 7. TIA!

Is that the EOS utility that came w/ the camera (circa 2002/3), or the newest version?

Frankly I'd be surprised if you had no problems, the D60 is a bit old, and Win7 is ridiculously finicky w/ older hardware (IME). I'm not sure if Canon has even bothered to write drivers for the D60 in win7.
Of course, if all you need to do is download images, then getting a CF card reader is going to be the easiest solution (plus it'd be a heckuva lot faster).

Yep, car reader is the easiest and fastest solution. The Canon software will still support RAW files from even a 9 year old camera, but getting a driver to work for an old USB (1.1 I assume) camera might approve challenging.

Thank you for all your quick responses. Tes, I have been using a CF reader to download images. However, I would like to take advantage of EOS Utility/ZoomBrowser and become baffled why it doesn't work with Win 7. Both Canon and Microsoft say no need for driver, yet the system asks for driver when the camera is connected. Everything works fine in Windows XP. I wonder if anybody has successfully installed this camera on Windows 7 and if so, please direct me to where I go wrong! Thanks again for all your quick responses.

Windows Vista and 7 have dropped support for some old hardware. Meanwhile, recent versions of at least some of Canon's EOS-related software have also dropped support for older bodies. And a D60 is an older body, whether you measure its age in years (about 9) or generations (6). I'm too lazy to look up whether the D60 is so old that some or all of these programs no longer support it, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's the case.

Obviously, anything that needs the camera attached to the computer (like updating the owner's name or shooting tethered) can't be done by popping the CF card out of the camera and into the card reader. But as far as browsing and manipulating images, what is there that you can do with the camera attached to the computer that you can't do to the files once you've copied them using a card reader?

I, too, would recommend a card reader. It's worth trying Canon for newer software, though.

Decent card readers are available for incredibly cheap prices (like a US buck) from China on eBay. Takes about 10 days to come in the mail, unless something strange happens (as it does very rarely).

Well sorta but not exactly. You can still open and tweak D60 RAW files in DPP. However, the remote capture option for certain older cameras is no longer supported in the new apps.

1. Does your new computer have a 32-bit processor, or 64-bit? If it's 64-bit, then you need a new driver, which may not exist.

2. Windows 7 has a compatibility mode, where you can make a program run as though it were running on XP. Look in Help and see if you can find something called "compatibility wizard" or something like that. I have used that mode to run programs on a friends computer that don't run correctly otherwise.

When I bought my last computer, I "downgraded" the OS to XP. You can see why!

Thank you everyone for your input. I am impressed with the reposnses, suggestions and comments receiving from this community.
1. I have used a card reader to download images.
2. I have an i3 Intel core duo laptop, running both 32 and 64 bit software. I installed EOS Utility in 32 bit mode.
3. Eventhough I can use the D60 (wish I had a 60D) in XP, I want to use one single computer for all my photos. both from Nikon and Canon. I would like to tether the camera on Win7, for instance, to experiment with some shooting techniques. Even though this camera is about 10 years old, i still get really good quality photos from it. Both Canon and Microsoft claims that the camera is compatible with Windows 7, yet the operating system still needs a driver for it. Canon has not released any new driver for Windws 7, only updated its utilities like ZoomBrowser, Photo Style, etc. A googling of the internet shows several titles of New released driver for Canon eos d60. Hwever, they are only links to sites of dubious software which I do not want to compromise my computer with.
Again, thanks for all your help! Have a nice weekend and happy shooting!
