vahe_sahakian
Bypassing DAG and Sherry, who would be the next best option for Leica repair/CLA?

Vahe
steve_levine
Other than a long wait time. I can't think of any reason not to use Sherry Krauter. Her reputation speaks for itself. I have personally had her service a pair of M cameras, and a dirt filled lens. In all three cases my expectations were met and exceeded!

DAG I've never used, but I have only ever heard praise of his work. That said, these two are considered the "best" at their craft.

After them ,I'm sure there are probably many other Leica capable repair people out there. I'd run this question past the RF forum crew. Or I'm sure someone here will chime in with alternatives.
ray_cutting
Definately consider Gus Lazzari, he has cla'd all of my Leica and non Leica camera's along with my lenses, he is top notch and is also a frequent pnet contributer.
You can email him, thegreatgus@gmail.com
stuart_richardson
They do a wonderful job at Leica in Germany -- quick and of course no one knows the cameras better. If you indicate that the camera is going out for repair, you should not have to pay any customs fees. The downside is higher shipping costs if you are outside of Germany. Within the US, Leica USA is good, but can take a long time. I have had very good experiences with Nippon Photo Clinic in NYC as well.
mukul_dube
I can personally vouch for Don Goldberg; but there are many good repair people other than those who have achieved Forum Fame. I know, of course, that members of this forum will inevitably ask such questions here. That is what such resources are for. I might add that Oleg Khalyavin of Russia breathed new life into a IIIa for me.
robert_hooper1
Here are the Leica repair services recommended by the Leica Historical Society of America.

As stated above, Gus Lazzari should be considered. He gave me a photo.net member discount on the beautiful restoration job he performed on a Leica M3 I sent to him recently. I don't know if he is still offering discounts, as he told me he had a lot of work in December.

DAG returned a lens rebuild/ CLA to me in about 4 months, which is not a bad turn-around time for him. The restoration of the collapsable 50mm Summicron was amazing and superb. I couldn't believe it was the same lens. With the exception of some insignificant marks, the lens looks and operates like new. Essentially, what I sent him was an interesting paperweight, without any aperture ring or aperture blades. I can only imagine he was amused when he received it.

Of course if you are not in America, perhaps you should let us know, so people may recommend repair facilities closer to your home.

tom_halfhill
DAG seems to be overwhelmed these days. He's had my M6 for nine months. I've phoned three times, and each time he says he will "get right on it," but I've been waiting a long while.
vahe_sahakian
That is the reason for asking about CLA person other than Dag and Sherry, DAG did my IIIg and it took a very long time to get it back.
robert_hooper1
vahe,

Yes, it's amazing that every Leica repair person I have communicated with has commented on the big workload they have. One could conclude Leica film cameras are undergoing a renaissance.

Were you satisfied with the job that Don did on your Leica IIIg?
