nglester
Hello guys
I thought the older Leica screw mount series can't use any of the M Bayonet lenses. I just tried out a friend's Voigtlander f2 50mm M mount and it screwed onto my iiif without a problem.
We just did a few snap shots on a fresh roll and wondering how it the pictures will come up.
Am i being mis-guided to get the screw mounts?
Please advice. Thank you

Thanks in advance

SCL
M mount lenses don't screw into anything...they bayonet in. You were probably using one which was a screw mount version fitted to a LTM screw->M mount adapter with the adapter removed. I do the same thing with my VC 15/f4.5 Super-wide Heliar ASPH depending on which camera I use it with: plain for LTM, attach the adapter for the M bodies..
soeren_engelbrecht1
That's because that particular Voigtlaender lens is actually not M Mount, but Leica Screw (or "LTM"). To make it work on an M, you need a screw-on adapter that "adds the bayonet". Today, Voigtlaender primarily makes M-mount lenses, where you cannot unscrew the bayonet, so to speak.

Soeren
ian_stuart
Hi Lester
The M-bayonet lens mount-to-film distance is 27.8mm, whereas the screw mount-to-film distance is 28.8mm. It is impossible to fit a M-bayonet lens to a screw mount camera and keep the lens in focus registry. I suspect that your friend's lens is a screwmount lens fitted with M-bayonet adapter. Remove the adapter and you have a normal screwmount lens.
By the way, the lens in your picture is a Nokton, which is a F/1.5 lens. This lens was made in screwmount (maybe only screwmount) according to Cameraquest.com.
Cheers
nglester
oh ok, i got it.
Yes, he's got a M adapter on the M6 body. It's a bloody nice lens, thinking to get one myself too.
Thanks guys!
mukul_dube
Lens has to be a 50/1.5 Nokton, which was made only in screw mount. There never was a Cosina-Voigtlander 50/2 in screw mount.

nglester
Mukul, i think Michael is right.
I saw this "near brand new" Ultron 35mm/ 1,7 yesterday, just couldn't help it and took the little orphan home with me.

mukul_dube
"There never was a Cosina-Voigtlander 50/2 in screw mount."

This is what I wrote. I stand by it. An Ultron 35/1.7 is not a 50/2. Or am I wrong there too? Why don't you people read before you let it out? Where is Michael A. Shapiro anyway?

I have an Ultron 35/1.7: and it is hardly "little". Look at a Summaron 35/3.5 if you want to see what I mean.
Robin Smith
Lester's lens looks like the 50 1.5 Nokton to me. Great lens!
Robin Smith

mukul_dube
I stand corrected. My information was from before 2009, when the only 50/2 in the line was the Heliar Classic in M mount.
nglester
Yea Robin, the lenses are amazing. The silver one is the 35mm 1.7 ultron. The 50mm 1.5 is the black one. Both amazing lenses, just did a test roll. Mukul. I just thought you said the 50/2 is the only that I can get.
mukul_dube
Lester, please read what I wrote. With the out-dated information I had, I thought that there was no C-V 50/2 in screw mount. I was wrong, as we see from the link that James Cooke gave. We see, though, that before the 2009 nickel "limited edition" Heliar there was no 50/2 in screw mount. For some while I had a Heliar Classic 50/2 (M mount); and I nearly bought a 50/1.5 Nokton before settling for an M-Hexanon 50/2. My wide-angle is an Ultron 35/1.7. Just to show that up to a point in the past I was not so ignorant.
