ross_swanborough1
Does anyone know the name of software - or how to retrieve an images "photoshoped" history well after it has been saved, opened/closed, or time has lapsed ??? Thanks
Matt Laur
If the image is still in the format that preserves the layers or rendering steps used in products like Photoshop, or Core's PhotoPaint, or a non-destructive RAW editor like Capture NX2 and others, then all of the original content and subsequent mods might be or will be present. But if the only file you haev is a TIFF or JPG, then you really only have one bitmap, with no layers to pull back. The meta data for an image file may still be present, though, and that could tell you when and how the image was first created, and when it was last modified. Beyond that, you aren't really going to be able to "rewind" back to the original.

It will really help if you provide a bit more information to go on, here. What file(s) do you have? What format are they in? What is it you really want to know about the files?
djcphoto
If you have the history log enabled in general preferences, you'll have history info in your metadata (or a text file, depending on your prefs). If not, you may be out of luck. Enable it if you haven't already.

Oh, I have CS5; not sure if this feature was in previous versions.
djcphoto
Just re-read your original post and realised that you didn't actually mention that you even have Photoshop (there I go assuming again). Anyway, if you do, see my other post; if not, please ignore!

Cheers,

Dave
acedigital
As stated above, you would have to have a PSD file (if you use Photoshop/CSx) to see any layers and edits performed. For new photos, Adobe Lightroom 3 stores change history and is non-destructive, you can always get back to the original or go step by step back through the history of edits.
ross_swanborough1
Firstly thank you very much for your replies ... enabling the history log will be my prefect solution from here on in ... alas I was trying to source my imaging effects that I applied to images from years gone by, being saved as tiffs and sometimes jpgs via photoshop. I presently use CS5.
A couple of years ago I heard of a software that had been developed to show what imaging events had been applied to an image. It was being used to show the "truth" of the image for the historical record ... showing what had been removed or added to an image ... like some sort of history retriever.
Thank you all so much again ...
