Matt, that brought a tear to my eye - what a beautiful Christmas gift.
I haven't had much time to play with lighting as I had hoped, but tonight we decided to do a quick impromptu shot of us and the dogs, as my one older dog is slowing down and we don't have many pictures of the 4 of us together. Much to learn yet with the new strobes (and probably not the best choice of lens and settings!), but I'm happy nevertheless that I got one where the dogs are actually sitting still. 10 seconds on the timer (oh how a remote shutter would have been nice!) was cutting it close but trying to keep the attention of 2 dogs at 3o seconds was simply not in the cards tonight!
Happy Holidays to All and see everyone in the New Year!

00XvlU-315397584.jpg.48ff78eaa114e93827a9392eb49d7ae8.jpg

Best wishes to all for a Happy New Year! I went out early Monday morning while at my mother’s (in the Austin, TX. area for Christmas) to see what I could find in the freezing temperatures (29F). Taken with my new Christmas present to myself, Tamron 60mm macro@1/90, f/8, ISO 400. Photo is a stack of three images in PSE 8.

I took this one with my newest old toy: the Reflex Nikkor 1000mm f/11
It is dark and has a difficult manual focus. The bokeh is weird and people often hate it.
But I´m loving it and the challenge to make it work.
This pic has very few and basic adjustments in PS CS4 (levels and sharpen).
Happy 2011 for you all.

00Xvlk-315401584.jpg.f07757579203022d557bde3cea4c5fbf.jpg

Happy new year! Before sunrise on Xmas morning, lenticular clouds formed over the mountains, and the sun then began to light them from underneath; they changed sahpe, the sun changed angle, and we saw for nearly an hour the best Xmas lights I can remember!
Hi there, I am sad to say, but I didn't even take my camera out this Christmas, was a bit under the weather. : ) Will be sharing with you my day at the Zoo last week again. First time I get to take a photo of the Lion, even though he was sleeping. Hope you all have a great New year, see you on the other side..

00XvmV-315421684.JPG.61e0f2688a69bcdda37266605b132b08.JPG

In my case I'm going to post a pic I took last monday, right before the 2nd cancellation of my flight back home. Taken with a D60 and the Nikkor 10-24, it shows the misery of many "passengers" waiting outside Heathrow Terminal 3, with temeratures below freezing, and with Heathrow security not allowing us in. Checking the list of flights ultimately proved fruitless for me.

In case you wonder, I could eventually fly back home the very 24th, and arrived for the christmas eve dinner with my family at 21:00.

00XvmW-315423584.JPG.794b1cc40ad87012a00fbb9d27173f93.JPG

This little guy and his sibling were in our front yard tree early Spring; motionless. After I used a step ladder to have a closer look he moved up the tree to another spot. At the base of the tree were remains of another. Then my wife and daughter mentioned finding an adult dead under the car after a very intense wind storm. So .... we assumed he's and orphan but since providing food, a regular addition to the family.

00Xvnn-315447584.jpg.14d1447bf94bc4be4d7febc39956ac82.jpg

A gloriously beautiful Christmas Day morning, and here we are climbing through 200ft over Larnaca's runway 22 in our little helicopter on our way to another Santa mission. Sorry for all those stuck at other airports and in freezing miserable conditions. No flying problem here, and still quite warm. There were a few big jets stuck here, but only because their destinations such as Heathrow and Paris were closed.

Hope everyone had a merry Christmas. Christmas Eve was the day our local family gathered together for a meal and gift exchange. Two of our granddaughters and two of our great-grandaughters were with us. One of each pictured here. Nikon D300 Tamron 17-50mm lens.

00XvoD-315451584.jpg.626507a19a72bbddedd2aacad5133c9c.jpg

here's a grab from early this month -- a yellow-bellied sapsucker. considering how fast a bird taking off moves, i'm surprised this one came in as sharp as it did at 1/1250s. in any case, it happens so fast that we can't even see it except in a photograph.

00XvoF-315455684.jpg.5f6546669dd3b052bdf3396cdfa8db46.jpg
