joshuasigar
Hi, currently I have a couple of SB 600s and thinking about acquiring a softbox for mostly self portraits. I'm looking into getting 28' softbox: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/682819-REG/Westcott_2331_28_APOLLO_w_8_STAND.html

Many mention that SB 600 may be not powerful, but I was wondering if the following photos can be produced with softbox-ed (and possibly gelled) SB 600?

kevin_delson
The setups show (2) off cam flashes. (1) SB-900 and (1) 580EXII.

Sure you can get similar shots with a similar setup using your SB-600's.
If you notice, the off cam flash's are not at nearly full output in the links you provided.
mark liddell
The westcott apollo 28" is great for speedlights but do consume more power than a shoot through umbrella. My SB800 is at 1/4 or even 1/2 power at f/8 at a close portrait type work. You don't have to use f/8 of course but outdoor in bright light you can struggle. joshuasigar
No plan for daylight use. And I will most definitely go with larger aperture than f/8. So it seems the photos are do-able with SB600s. Gonna place my order soon. Thanks guys!
michael_taylor9
This photo on my web site was done with a SB600 shooting through a 24" softbox that was outside a window.

http://twoeyesopen.ca/twoeyesopen/Photos.html#6

They are certainly powerful enough to get the job done.
