RobertChura Posted December 6, 2010 Share Posted December 6, 2010
I just noticed after making a post that an image at the bottom of the forum was from my hidden folder. Is this normal?
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Charles_Webster Posted December 6, 2010 Share Posted December 6, 2010
Yep. Those hidden folders aren't hidden from any of the automatic processes that pick photos for the bottom of posts, or your Workspace page, or...?

<Chas>
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Michael R Freeman Posted December 6, 2010 Share Posted December 6, 2010
Presumably the image has ratings? If you submitted the photo for ratings before it was "hidden", then it is part of the database that is currently used to pick your random photo for display at the bottom of the page.

As Charles noted, hidden folders aren't really hidden in the absolute sense, and they are definitely not private (that was never the intent of this feature). They are hidden from display on your gallery page, but anyone with the url to an image from a hidden folder can access the entire folder and all the photos within.

The image at the bottom of discussion threads is not static, so you may see one photo and someone who reads the discussion 30 seconds later may see a different photo from a different folder within your portfolio.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Michael R Freeman Posted December 8, 2010 Share Posted December 8, 2010
The purpose of photo.net is to share photographs, not hide them. There are other sites for that if you want locked, private galleries.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
muaythai Posted December 12, 2010 Share Posted December 12, 2010 Then why is there the option to hide them from view? Not being snarky or anything. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
