nino_loss
Hi,

Please help to decide whether this is a good opportunity to get more quality light or not:

The local dealer is offering a demo D4 2400, not R, the regular one, for half the local list price. In addition the unit was also rented out for 28 days. He would still give me 3 months warranty.

Thanks on advance for your insights

Alex
If you have the funds to do. it I'd jump on it. Worst case you can sell it and still profit from it. They retain their value. I wish I had the $ and someone willing to sell it for half all at once.
jerry s
Half the local list price is excellent, and worth serious consideration. As Alex noted, Profoto retains its value quite well. Profoto equipment is also very well built and reliable. They are designed (and supported) to give years of reliable service. The twenty eight days of recent use barely breaks them in:)
The big questions are how do you intend to use the D4, and how will it integrate into your current lighting capabilities?
All things considered, it's a great deal.
nino_loss
Alex and Jerry,
Thank you both for your answer!
I see you confirm my good feelings about it.

Alex,

Evidently that's a lot of money, but not only does the dealer give me this nice price, but I am also able to trade in some old (very old) acutes. Also to have the same control over the output I would use four separate units. Four acutes will cost more (even used). One disadvantage though, is that, if the d4 breaks, four lights break at once, and not just one. Finally, renting is too expensive for me.

Jerry,
I intend to use it with my acute and acute2/D4 heads ;-). Seriously, I'll use it mainly in studio for portrait (small and large groups) and above all for product photography. I also intend to bring it on location occasionally. I am looking forward to the control over the output the D4 offers.

regards
nino
jom_spencer
I bought a demo D4 - 1200 R. from B&H . Works great.
NOT as fast to recharge as the Acute 2's.
Keep them too!
jerry s
Given your intended use, I think you'd be VERY happy with the D4:) You mentioned some concern about losing all 4 heads if the pack goes down; with Profoto's solid build I'd say the chances of that happening are very slim.
