emily_mehring
Hi there,
I am desperately searching for the right company for my website / gallery / prints any help would be hugely appreciated.
I photograph everything sports, wedding, maternity, news, right now family portraits are popular anyways I don't have a real web site yet just samples up at http://emilymehringphotography.shutterfly.com/ (it's a free share site) and http://picasaweb.google.com/emmehring (also free)
#1
I am looking to build a professional website (out of templets or whatever) that I can manage, I'll want to update my portfolio regularly.
#2
I want this website to have gallaries where my clients can view their shoot and order from it (I tried Shutterfly for this but they were taking 15% of my orders and upping the cost of "wholesale printing")
#3
I am looking for a provider that can do the printing once the customer has selected the photos they want to order out of the gallery
Does any such place exist?
I'd appreciate any of your ideas
Thanks,
Emily
Matt Laur
Millers Lab (millerslab.com) has a nice storefront app as part of their offerings. Also check out smugmug.com as a popular option.

derek_kennedy
Smugmug is a 'template' site but allows for customization, encourages it actually. They have their own forum for help (www.dgrin.com). You can set up private, passworded galleries for your clients. You can set it up to be able to sell prints straight from your site (I think its a 'pro' level thing tho? cant recall).

They also have (smugmug) a short trial period to allow you to mess around with it and I believe its 14 days. I have my own site there www.djkennedy.com. My nav bar for example is a hack/customization and so is the slide show on the main page.

It can be hard to figure out how to set up the galleries/sub galleries and what not but once you get things all set up a SM site can be quite nice. Keeping in mind that Im no pro photographer or web coder....

Its super easy to update things once you have it set up the way you want (as in uploading more images or whatever). Bottom of my site there is a code you can use to save yourself $5 f you decide to continue from the trial to a purchased account. I believe there are 3 'levels', some things are only (obviously) allowed on the 'pro' level accounts such as your own URL - something they dont do but will explain how to set your site up with your own URl once you get one, if you get one.
emily_mehring
Thanks Derek, I see that smugmug takes 15% of what my clients order on top of printing costs, this seems high to me I wonder if there are any hosts out there that don't cut into my profit I rather offer my clients 15% off then have the printing service get it.
